Caterpillar Paving Products offer a complete solution for the paving industry, including equipment, training, consulting, parts, service and support that ensure our customers success.  If you are looking to help grow a key business for a worldwide leader, are a highly motivated engineer with a passion for machine controls design, development and improvement we have a great opportunity for you to join our Paving Products team in Brooklyn Park, MN as a Control Systems Engineer! 

As a key role on the Paving Technology Team, you will develop Electro Mechanical Control Systems using quantitative methods to solve problems through integrating mechanical and electronic components and systems through control algorithm implementation and optimization using data from sensors, on-board models and product analytics.  You will  direct and participate in the design and development of new Electro Mechanical Control Systems product concepts and complex engineering projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, digital connectivity and serviceability.

Specifically, as the Controls Systems Engineer, you will

  • Conceive and provide practical control system product design applications using complex technical principles with an emphasis on creating concepts and directing the design and development of complex engineering projects that provide superior integrated control system designs.

  • Prepare concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex integrated control system engineering projects.

  • Coordinate product tests with prove design and prototype build up and test areas.

  • Evaluate, define and resolve design and manufacturing problems.

  • Travels to manufacturing facilities, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve design problems or to field test locations to evaluate a product improvement.

  • Keep abreast of latest technological advancements in the control system area and prepare design concepts that develop unique product design features.

  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies such as Matlab/Simulink, co-simulation, adaptive control and self-learning machines.

The successful candidate must bring (basic qualifications):

  • A bachelor’s degree in an accredited Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering OR Computer Science curriculum AND at least 3 years of experience in control systems; OR an advanced degree in an Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering OR Computer Science curriculum plus at least 2 years of experience in control systems.

  • Demonstrated mastery of complex engineering concepts.

  • Demonstrated capability of writing requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects across a variety of systems and facilities globally.

Top Candidates Will Also Bring (Desired Qualifications):

  • Experience with Python, Simulink and Danfoss Controls
