Role Summary
Magna Corporate R&D is seeking a talented and self-motivated Test Engineer/Technician for the Holly, Michigan location. The position is within the Advanced Robotics team, which creates new automation solutions that improve overall process efficiencies using advanced robotic technologies. The ideal candidate will have theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on experience in industrial automation using robotic arms, machine vision, and PLCs.

Role Summary
Magna Corporate R&D is seeking a talented and self-motivated Test Engineer/Technician for the Holly, Michigan location. The position is within the Advanced Robotics team, which creates new automation solutions that improve overall process efficiencies using advanced robotic technologies. The ideal candidate will have theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on experience in industrial automation using robotic arms, machine vision, and PLCs.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand system requirements, work with the team to establish and validate the operational windows, design experiments, and define test plans.
- Design, setup and realize the test systems, including, but not limited to, acquiring appropriate hardware (e.g. fixtures, sensors, actuators), interfacing electrical or computer systems (e.g. data acquisition systems, wiring)
- Execute test plans, collect test data, perform data analysis, and report and present the results.
- Evaluate and identify improvements for the validation process on system integration of existing robotic systems (such as serial manipulator arms).
- Practice and maintain integrity while following Magna's Charter and Constitution.
- Comply with the designated ISO / TS 16949 responsibilities, Health & Safety (H&S) rules and practices, Magna policies, procedures, and practices.
- Treat everyone with dignity, trust and respect.
- Perform any other assignments from time-to-time as management so directs.
Health & Safety and Housekeeping Duties
- Responsible for the general upkeep and required maintenance of lab equipment.
- Responsible for adherence to Magna lab requirements (ie. Mafact / 5S) and procedures.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree or trade school in electrical, mechanical, or equivalent discipline with appropriate coursework focus
- 3+ years of hands-on field experience in industrial automation and robotics
- Experience in hardware and software system integration, such as integration of new sensors, actuators and/or robotic manipulator into a new or existing test system
- Control logic programming and ladder logic with at least one PLC OEM (AB/Yaskawa/Siemens)
- Robot programming and offline simulation experience with a few OEMs: ABB, Motoman, Fanuc
- Machine vision - Cognex, Halcon or similar and basic understanding of optics (camera and lens selection for a given task)
- Understanding of machine safety systems
- Knowledge of communication protocols (EIP, TCP/IP, modbus, IO-Link), DI/Os, sensors and actuators
- Ability to read and make electrical schematics, and engineering drawings
- Familiarity with computer programming: C++, python or similar
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Additional Information
- Readiness to travel international & domestic up to 15% annually
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time in an industrial lab environment
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components
- Contract duration through December 23, 2022. Any further contract renewals is based upon project needs
