Role: Development Engineer – Defence UK (GCAP)

Location: Bristol / Hybrid (Min 3 days per week in the office)

Hours: Fulltime

Job Purpose

To own and deliver Development activities e.g. Verification & Validation (V&V), Build/Experiment definition across Component, Bench Engine and Installed Verification (Flight Test), and the subsequent delivery of V&V data back to the programmes. 

The Development Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Rolls-Royce has sufficient oversight for our products to meet business, customer and regulatory requirements. It covers engineers who are performing Development, Systems Engineering and Verification style roles.

This is an integration role where the individual will work to enable all engineering teams through coaching and support to successfully develop robust, verified engineering solutions against robust validated customer requirements.

This role sits within our Defence business and supports our multinational programmes to deliver the next generation of Defence capability.

What you will be doing:

• Deliver product verification strategy, structured verification plan and Product Development Plan
• Be the point of contact with the project to support and coach the team Verification activities, driving the right V&V behaviours within the project.
• Provide the necessary coaching/support to engineering programmes and sub-system teams to plan the engine verification and validation tests, driving the right V&V behaviours within the project.
• Manage the creation of substantiation evidence, clearance/acceptance documentation that meets the demand for the project.
• Manage aircraft integration issues necessary to support the programme.
• Run effective Risk Management and Project Gated Review Processes for the development packages.
• Develop and communicate the plan for delivering the work on time and remove risks/barriers to the plan.
• Execute and manage the Engine Development Plan (EDP) / Product Development Plan (PDP) through support and oversight of the instrumentation, assembly, test, and strip of test vehicles.
• Ensure R-E-D-V (Requirements, Design Rationale Evidence, Design Definition and Verification Information) health data reports from Validation and Verification activities is used to drive the engineering programme schedule and to remove technical risk.
• Execute effective communication of assembly, test and strip instructions to support the experimental activities and deliver verification programmes.
• Define experiments/test requirements.
• Define configuration hardware requirements to satisfy verification activities.
• Act as a Project interface with Operations plus Test and Measurement capabilities.          
• Execute effective communication of assembly, test and strip instructions to support the experimental activities and deliver verification programmes.
• Establish the necessary demand for the parts to support the Engine Development Programme.
• Provide validated test data to programme.

Key Experiences and any Qualifications:

• Degree level in Engineering or equivalent
• Experience in relevant domain is preferred but not essential
• Good communication, presentation skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment

To work for the Rolls-Royce Defence Early Life Cycle business, an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place.
