ROLE DESCRIPTION
We are looking for an Engineer, Terminal Engineering to join our team in our Betzdorf HQ!
With this role, you will join the SES Next Generation Satellite Terminal Development team, which provides technical leadership and expertise in the areas of satellite terminal and baseband systems development. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, testing, automation and maintenance of satellite communication terminals used by end-users. This role is an exciting blend of hardware and software engineering, to ensure that satellite user terminals meet performance, reliability and compliance standards.
You will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list) :
  • Develop and design satellite user terminals, ensuring they meet required specifications and industry standards
  • Perform Level-4 technical support for satellite terminals to peers/customers in- and outside the company as an established expert in the satellite and terrestrial ground engineering field and act as a trusted representative of the team and the company
  • Manage testing activities:
    • Design comprehensive test plans and procedures to evaluate the performance and reliability of satellite terminals
    • Define test objectives, criteria, and methodologies to ensure thorough validation and continuously improve methodologies, tools, and processes
    • Conduct a variety of tests, including functional, performance, stress, environmental, and compliance tests on satellite terminals
    • Document test procedures, setups, and results in detailed technical reports
    • Develop and maintain automated test scripts to increase efficiency and coverage of testing processes
    • Implement automated testing tools and frameworks to streamline validation efforts
    • Use statistical methods and data analysis tools to interpret test results and generate insights
  • Work with design and development teams to troubleshoot and resolve identified issues
  • Ensure that satellite terminals meet industry standards and regulatory requirements through rigorous testing. Perform certification tests to verify compliance with relevant standards.
  • Stay updated on new testing technologies and best practices in the satellite communications industry
  • Work closely and collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including design, development, and quality assurance, to ensure alignment on test objectives and outcomes
  • Communicate effectively with project managers and stakeholders to provide status updates and insights on test progress
  • Assess potential risks associated with the deployment of satellite terminals and recommend mitigation strategies

YOUR PROFILE
  • Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering degree (BS/MS or similar) with a knowledge of RF and telecom theory
  • 4 years of hands-on engineering experience in satellite terminal systems, and worked successfully as Development, Systems Engineer or Test and validation engineer.
  • Experience in RF measurement techniques, test and verification of satellite terminals and expertise in auxiliary systems like Network (IP, switching, routing), Monitoring and Control systems
  • Knowledge of satellite communication systems, transmission standards, modulation and decoding techniques of satellite communication paths, satellite transmission standards
  • Experience and knowledge of software development processes, focused on agile methodologies, as well as testing and integration phases
  • Experience and knowledge of electronic development cycles and related integration and testing
  • Basis of satellite systems and space segment operational concepts (ConOps)
  • Software Quality assurance and management experience
  • Knowledge of testing procedure automation, and automated unit testing methodologies
  • Experience with collaborating software development tools such as GITHUB and JIRA, SVN
  • Experience with database techniques (such as SQL for example)
  • Experience with Integrated Development Environment (IDE) (ie Eclipse, Visual Studio, etc)
  • Experience in utilities programming, debuggers and debugging techniques
  • Experience with virtualization techniques and operating systems
