Role Summary
Magna Corporate R&D is seeking a highly motivated Technical R&D Project Lead to lead and execute complex technical work packages within Corporate R&D programs. This role is designed for an individual contributor who combines technical expertise with project leadership capability.
The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in a fast paced, ambiguous environment, works effectively with remote global leadership, and is capable of driving execution while aligning with broader program objectives. The role contributes to the development of innovative concepts, prototyping, and validation related to people and goods mobility.
Key Responsibilities
· Consolidate and manage critical technical project information including scope, timing, quality targets, risks, dependencies, and open issues, ensuring delivery within agreed parameters
· Manage the full development cycle of assigned technical work packages within R&D programs
· Lead planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting activities related to assigned project scope
· Collaborate closely with engineering teams and support functions to resolve technical, schedule, and integration issues
· Prepare and present materials for gate reviews, quarterly reviews, and steering committees; identify high risk areas and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions
· Participate in cross functional teams to drive projects from concept through completion
· Act as a technical interface for internal and external stakeholders, including customer-facing presentations when required
· Research and apply advances in automotive technology building blocks, software/data analytics methods, and advanced manufacturing techniques
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Education
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field
· Strong understanding of automotive technologies and systems
· Solid grounding in core engineering principles
Experience
· 7+ years of recent, hands-on technical experience in the automotive industry or a closely related field
· 3+ years of experience leading technical projects or work packages, including coordination across functions
Required Skills
· Strong spoken and written English skills; Mandarin (Fluent Chinese) required for local collaboration
· Proven ability to work effectively in a global, cross time zone environment
· Demonstrated capability to operate independently with limited supervision
· Strong written communication skills to support asynchronous collaboration and decision making
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in PowerPoint and Excel
· Excellent professional communication skills and executive level presence
· Demonstrated technical creativity and ability to initiate, direct, and control complex technical work packages
· Ability to identify emerging technologies and apply them within business and R&D strategy
