Situated in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, our Rapid City office is the home of our relays design team. This group focuses on products for circuit protection and safety such as Ground Fault Relays and Neutral Ground Resistor monitors.
The R&D Rotational Engineer will be a key player in executing the Relay Development Roadmap in the Industrial Business Unit. As part of the development plan, the R&D Rotational Engineer will be rotating through 3 teams (6 - 8 months in each) in the Rapid City, SD location: New Product Development (NPD) / Tester Design, New Technology and Advanced Development (NT&AD), and Sustaining Engineering/Product Management.
About the Job / Rotations:
NPD / Tester Design
Working with the NPD team, the RISE engineer will focus on test development for new products along with product design support activities. This includes writing applications (in Python) for both hardware and software validation , designing test fixtures, and developing hardware/firmware.
NT&AD
Working with the NT&AD team, the RISE engineer will work with our research engineers focusing on future technologies for next generation products. Tasks involve, researching existing technologies / patents, developing algorithms, designing prototype hardware / firmware, simulating novel designs, and proof of concept experimentation.
Sustaining / Factory / Product Management
Working with the sustaining engineering team, the RISE engineer will execute on product improvement projects. Working with the product management team may involve activities like visiting customer sites and helping to develop product documentation and business plans. Working with the factory team may involve duties such as interfacing with our Mexico-based manufacturing team to improve manufacturing and testing processes.
About You:

BS Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related field

Proficiency in schematic capture, understanding of PCB layout

Experience programming in C/C++

Knowledge of scripting languages (i.e. Python) a plus

Strong ability to communicate with other engineers, management, and external customers over both written and verbal communication

Excellent analytical skills and demonstrable knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals.
