The Opportunity:

As our Engineer, Payments Specialist, you’ll work closely with our Product Manager and Omnichannel Leader to enable retailers to use commercetools’ solutions across channels. You’ll work closely with enthusiastic and experienced retail specialists in an agile and international environment with a modern, evolving tech-stack. Your Mission:

  • Design and develop scalable and secure payment systems to handle financial transactions securely and efficiently in a multi-tenant Cloud/SaaS environment
  • Design, implement and test in-store payment and payment device interactions including credit/debit, gift cards, digital wallets, and more
  • Work closely with Product Management to understand the business needs and find appropriate technical solutions
  • Contribute to the definition of the team roadmap
  • Ensure that functional and non-functional requirements (performance, security) are met
  • Work with engineers from different teams to ensure technical excellence of the whole platform
  • Take part in on-call rotation (with the worldwide distributed team) for production systems

What you need to succeed:

  • 2+ years of engineering experience supporting a physical setting including payment processing and PED devices
  • Experience integrating, implementing, and supporting at least one major PSP provider / gift card processor such as Adyen, Stripe, Paypal Braintree, Worldpay, GlobalPay, GiveX, Clutch, Elavon, or Savvy
  • 3+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer developing server-side systems
  • Knowledge of cash accounting principles, payments localisation considerations such as currency and cash rounding, and change for charity
  • Experience with PCI DSS
  • Experience with Typescript or Javascript
  • Solid understanding of parallel and asynchronous programming, as well as non-blocking I/O
  • Experience in developing REST API’s and knowledge of scalable architectures
  • Knowledge of document databases (Mongo.db) and API interaction tools (such as Postman, or similar)
  • Fluent written and verbal English language skills for work in international teams
  • The aspiration to constantly improve yourself and learn new technologies and concepts
  • A good understanding of Agile methodologies and participation in sprint rituals
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment - remotely for development but commuting to a Valencia lab for physical device work

Nice to have:

  • Experience with MACH principles and solutions composed in MACH environments
  • Experience with customer-centric payments such as corporate debtor account, purchase orders, loyalty points payments, or coupon tender
