SUMMARY OF DUTIES
This position is a team member in South Jordan, Utah and focuses on the manufacturability of new product development during the design phase. The R&D Design Transfer Engineer will be a member of multiple project teams as prioritized by the EVP of Research and Development. As projects advance in phases, the Design Transfer Engineer will support process transfer to operational sites with focus on process development, cost containment, and scrap reduction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED
1. Provides input to the project team for design activities while considering project budget, design for manufacturability, robust manufacturing concepts, product cost goals and process efficiency.
2. Creates and maintains required documentation for manufacturing processes, including process flow charts, capacity studies, time and motion studies, standard work, cycle time analysis, and line balancing.
3. Reviews/approves documentation associated with manufacturing under Design Control and/or R&D Pilot manufacturing.
4. Develops a good working relationship with Merit Operations teams at the receiving facility to achieve an atmosphere of high communication and collaboration, as well as gain insights and direction regarding process and standardized best practices.
5. Is responsible for the transfer of products from R&D Pilot Manufacturing to operations by facilitating and coordinating resources in conjunction with the receiving team.
6. Assures that the receiving facility understands the design intent, customer use, and the story of product design changes.
7. Resolves problems in product/process development and manufacturing by utilizing root cause analysis, six sigma and lean manufacturing principals to ensure that quality needs are being met and manufacturing criteria are achieved.
8. Facilitates communication with Planning to coordinate material and documentation requirements for qualification and production activities.
9. Provides technical guidance to engineers on the development/qualification of new processes/products, and manufacturing support activities to improve, capacity, compliance, and other sustaining issues.
10. Performs other related duties and tasks as required.

SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or technical field related to the department of assignment or industry with five years previous related experience.
• Ability to apply analytical skills and scientific technical principles in problem solving and development.
• Demonstrated computer skills preferably spreadsheets, word processing, database and other applicable software programs.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively as a team member.
• Working knowledge of United States and international standards as applicable to the department.
