In this role, you’ll conduct engineering and economic studies to evaluate the performance, efficiency, and behavior of wholesale electricity markets. Your work will support the assessment of market structures, operational events, and rule impacts—ultimately helping to evolve MISO’s market design and ensure a reliable, competitive, and efficient energy marketplace.

Through in-depth analysis and collaborative problem-solving, you’ll influence system improvements, develop market design initiatives, and clearly communicate findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and external market participants.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform statistical, economic, and engineering analyses related to system and market operations, participant behavior, pricing outcomes, supply-demand imbalances, market anomalies, and overall market design. Assess market competitiveness, efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Develop, evaluate, and support enhancements to wholesale electricity market design initiatives, including assessing impacts to market structure driven by industry evolution and emerging market needs.

Analyze market models, tools, and algorithms to identify opportunities for improvement in accuracy, efficiency, performance, and market outcomes.

  • Assess MISO market systems for compliance with tariff requirements and recommend enhancements to systems, processes, and tariff language to strengthen compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of market rules, tariff provisions, and business practices to support ongoing compliance and market integrity.
  • Conduct studies and simulations of electricity market clearing models, algorithms, and power market operations to identify anomalous, inefficient, or unintended market outcomes related to pricing signals, competition, reliability, and cost causation.
  • Perform post-implementation and after-the-fact analyses of new market products, rule changes, and significant operational events to evaluate effectiveness and market impact.
  • Evaluate the performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of MISO market and operational rules, processes, and systems, and recommend improvements where appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
