Position Summary

A career in the System Integrity group will provide the opportunity to perform general engineering work in operations, construction and maintenance environments and ensure the safety and reliability of our pipeline systems. This role will be critical in ensuring the long-term integrity and performance of our pipeline assets. This role may analyze and develop solutions to engineering problems related to the Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP), Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP), and Cathodic Protection systems. This also involves developing and applying engineering standards, best business practices, and providing advice on issues within the engineering field. This role may perform engineering duties in various specialty areas including design engineering, system planning engineering, and other specialties as required.
The System Integrity Engineer will be responsible for managing and overseeing the integrity of pipeline systems throughout their lifecycle, ensuring that they meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards. This role requires a background in pipeline design, risk management, inspection techniques, and data analysis, along with an understanding of regulatory compliance and operational best practices. As an Engineer in the integrity department, this role will also support the Cathodic Protection of the various pipeline systems. This role will play a critical part in ensuring the long-term integrity and performance of our pipeline systems. This can include overseeing contractors and implementing/designing cathodic protection systems to prevent pipeline corrosion, improve safety, and enhance the reliability of our operations.

Essential Functions:

Roles and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate the condition of pipeline facilities using in-line inspection (ILI) data, corrosion surveys and direct assessments
  • Identify and analyze anomalies such as corrosion, dents, and manufacturing defects
  • Prepare and maintain required documentation for Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP), Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP), and Transmission Cathodic Protection systems for company records, audits and inspections
  • Ensure pipeline operations comply with applicable regulations and best practices (e.g. PHMSA, AMPP, etc.)
  • Formulating and solving problems as presented
  • Providing informal guidance to team members and formal guidance to large project teams
  • Develop, implement, and maintain corrosion control strategies, including design, installation, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems.
  • Analyze pipeline inspection data to identify potential corrosion issues and assess the effectiveness of cathodic protection measures.
  • Manage regular field inspections, tests, and surveys to ensure the operational efficiency of cathodic protection systems.
  • Provide technical support to pipeline operations, maintenance, and construction teams.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including inspection reports, system drawings, and inspection data.
  • Monitor and optimize cathodic protection systems to meet regulatory standards and industry best practices.
  • Provide expertise on corrosion control techniques, including mitigation strategies, to minimize risk and extend pipeline life.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites for inspections, audits, and assessments.

This role will possess advanced knowledge of engineering and/or technical concepts, practices, and procedures. The successful candidate will work as the primary engineer and project manager on multiple projects within the System Integrity Department.

It is expected that the candidate for this role is proficient in most types of work within the group/project team and may act as a technical resource for less experienced employees. Furthermore, it is expected that the successful candidate will present results in team meetings, corporate presentations, and management one on ones. The ideal candidate will receive little instruction on day-to-day work and receive general instructions on new assignments/topics of interest while reporting directly to the Manager of System Integrity.

Qualifications

Required Background:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with 2 years of relevant experience
  • Master’s degree with 0 years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Required Skills:

  • Understanding of pipeline design, corrosion control, and integrity management practices.
  • Familiarity with pipeline inspection tools (e.g., ILI, ECDA, smart pigging)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make sound technical decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with pipeline inspection tools and corrosion monitoring technologies.
  • Proficient in data analysis

Preferred Skills:

  • An EIT or Professional Engineering License
  • Experience in specifically Engineering Design, Construction, or Project Management
  • Familiarity with USDOT Part 192 and the Natural gas industry/pipeline industry
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS
  • Experience with SharePoint and Power Bi
  • Certification in Cathodic Protection (NACE, AMPP, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards (e.g., NACE, API, ASME) and regulatory requirements related to pipeline integrity and corrosion control.

    Compensation Range:

    $69,000 - 110,400

    We are committed to pay transparency and ensuring equitability compensation for all employees. The pay range for this position reflects the base salary only and does not include benefits, bonuses, or other forms of compensation that might be part of the total compensation package. The specific salary offered will be based on a candidate’s qualifications, education, and experience.
