Job Description:
Microchip Technology Inc. has an Engineer II–Software Development opening based in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will build and deploy AI/ML-powered software tools that enhance semiconductor engineering workflows and enable intelligent automation across enterprise functions. You will work closely with hardware, firmware, software, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into impactful AI-driven solutions.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions with a focus on machine learning, and large language model applications.
Implement and optimize machine learning models, including training, evaluation, and performance tuning.
Develop and maintain data pipelines and model integration into production systems.
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best software engineering practices.
Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture decisions.
Monitor deployed models for performance, reliability, and data drift; recommend and implement improvements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product hardware and software development, product management, data engineering, infrastructure, and quality) to translate business requirements into scalable AI/ML solutions.
Stay current with emerging AI/ML techniques, tools, and industry trends, and apply them where appropriate.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field with a focus on AI/ML, plus 2.5 years of relevant industry experience; or a Master’s degree (preferred).
Minimum of 5+ years of proven software development and programming experience in one or more languages including Python and JavaScript/TypeScript.
Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
Solid understanding of core machine learning concepts, including supervised and unsupervised learning, model evaluation, and feature engineering.
Experience working with structured and/or unstructured data.
Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC), version control systems (e.g., Git), and CI/CD practices.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience deploying machine learning models in production environments.
Knowledge of MLOps practices, model monitoring, and automation pipelines.
Familiarity with cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) for AI/ML workloads.
Experience with data engineering tools, distributed systems, or big data technologies (e.g., Databricks, Spark, Kafka).
Background in applied AI domains such as natural language processing, or recommendation systems.
Understanding of software performance optimization, scalability, and security considerations.
Prior experience working in an Agile or DevOps development environment.

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in the US, is $70,304-$143,000.**Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
