Job Description:

Microchip Technology Inc. has an opening for an Engineer I–Software Development position in Houston, Texas. In this role, the candidate will work as a C++ software developer in the L1 Quality Assurance (QA) team to enhance and maintain a custom framework for validating storage solutions in a fast paced, non-stop, automated test environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Help design, develop, and maintain an ever-expanding automation QA framework and suite of test cases and tools that use system-level and custom IOCTL calls to validate a complete data center storage solution

  • Understand product implementation and expected product behaviors by reading specifications and source code

  • Develop automated tests for validating new solutions and feature sets

  • Improve the efficiency and capabilities of the QA automated test framework

  • Work with QA and Development teams to debug and triage both test case and product failures

  • Maintain servers and other hardware/software components used for continuous automated testing

  • Work with QA and Development teams to track and provide estimates for tasks by utilizing and following the Agile methodology

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

  • 2+ years of proven programming experience using C++ and Bash Shell scripting

  • Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design and programming best practices

  • Strong analysis and debug skills

  • Experience working in multi-threaded environments

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience working with Linux operating systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Able to apply memory management techniques in low-memory environments

  • Familiarity with server storage technologies and concepts (RAID, SCSI, etc.)

  • In addition to strong C++ coding experience, experience with Java, Python, and/or Perl is a plus
