Job Description:
Microchip Technology Inc. has an opening for an Engineer I–Software Development position in Houston, Texas. In this role, the candidate will work as a C++ software developer in the L1 Quality Assurance (QA) team to enhance and maintain a custom framework for validating storage solutions in a fast paced, non-stop, automated test environment.
Responsibilities:
Help design, develop, and maintain an ever-expanding automation QA framework and suite of test cases and tools that use system-level and custom IOCTL calls to validate a complete data center storage solution
Understand product implementation and expected product behaviors by reading specifications and source code
Develop automated tests for validating new solutions and feature sets
Improve the efficiency and capabilities of the QA automated test framework
Work with QA and Development teams to debug and triage both test case and product failures
Maintain servers and other hardware/software components used for continuous automated testing
Work with QA and Development teams to track and provide estimates for tasks by utilizing and following the Agile methodology
Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
2+ years of proven programming experience using C++ and Bash Shell scripting
Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design and programming best practices
Strong analysis and debug skills
Experience working in multi-threaded environments
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience working with Linux operating systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Able to apply memory management techniques in low-memory environments
Familiarity with server storage technologies and concepts (RAID, SCSI, etc.)
In addition to strong C++ coding experience, experience with Java, Python, and/or Perl is a plus
