POSITION SUMMARY
The Product Engineer will act as the subject matter expert and design owner for large battery backup products deployed with Vertiv uninterruptible power supplies. This position works closely and continuously with others from research & development, field service, technical writing, sales, and manufacturing engineering to maximize customers’ satisfaction with Vertiv’s products and implement ongoing design changes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design owner for large commercial battery backup systems using lithium-ion or other battery chemistry.
- Invent, prototype, test and implement design changes to prevent recurrence of a problem, pursue cost-out opportunities, or add value to a product.
- Create or revise technical documentation for a product.
- Assist with troubleshooting by investigating emergent problems at customer sites or in local factories. Regional travel to a customer site (typically a datacenter) is typically required every 4-6 months.
- Assist with creating user manuals for new Vertiv products being launched.
- Occasionally interact with customers directly, either in support of quoting/sales or in response to problems.
- Occasionally operate test equipment up to 700V and 1.6MW in support of the activities above.
- Occasionally design, build, and modify simple test equipment.
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- University degree Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- 4+ years of experience in an Electrical Engineer role.
- Customer oriented and availability to travel.
- Good English language knowledge.
- Must have good planning, organizing, documentation and communication skills.
- Must be team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Must be able to lead and coordinate project tasks with other engineering teams globally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in any of the following areas is desirable:
- Analog or high-voltage circuit design
- Industrial equipment design
- Commercial or industrial power infrastructure
- Uninterruptible power supplies
- Sensor & microprocessor integration
- Lithium-ion battery management systems
- Experience certifying one or more products with a listing agency such as UL or CSA
- Knowledge of NEC or NFPA 855 is desirable but not required.
- Experience using 2-dimensional CAD is desirable but not required.
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Ability to occasionally lift objects up to 40lbs to a height of 48 inches.
