BASIC FUNCTION
Develops solutions of moderate complexity technical problems related to new engine design or upgrading of existing engines, receiving general direction.
Defines, with relative moderate guidance, the technical solutions to meet the Product Profile or ECR (Engineering Change Request) requirements, considering aspect related to manufacture, assembly, cost and value for customer (Design to Manufacture Design to Assembly, Design to Cost, Design to Value).
Analyzes solutions evaluating manufacturing and assembly aspects and considering the impact on the costs and the added value for the customer, of moderate complexity technical problems related to the design of new engines.
Conception, creative design, analysis of new application or improve engines and components at the intermediate professional engineering level.
Planning, scheduling of a new application or component design including the technical support for the personnel assigned to the project.
Completes professional engineering assignments of moderately broad scope.
Consults with more experienced technical staff for a major technology choice and on technical matters.
Executes projects by using off-the-shelf (existing and within the same industry) technology with minimum guidance.
SPECIFIC RESPONSABILITIES
1. Makes, with relative moderate guidance, the Design and proto procurement activities according to the Platform requirements and the time plan
2. Gives support, with relative moderate guidance, to BOM team in definition of new engines applications together with Engine Integration and Sales.
3. Gives assistance to Production, Purchase, and Quality for improvements, problem solving and new sourcing, related to moderate complexity problems.
4. Assumes responsibility of all work on assigned projects, coordinates and supports, with relative moderate guidance, consultants and suppliers involving design, drafting, sample construction and delivery, as well as for the ones release for production.
5. Makes appropriate decisions using decision support tools and critical thinking including risk/reward ratios and critical pathing and is mindful of business impact.
6. Be aware of the impact of the choices and/or solutions proposed in the area of responsibility (big picture)
7. Look for compromises between technical requirements and customer requests (costs, advantages)
8. Maintains project records, prepare technical, cost and other reports as requested to show progress and results achieved.
9. Contributes with creative new ideas, concepts and approaches relative to the project design and development.
10. Works to support the department goals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
· University degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification with typically 3 years of work experience in Diesel engine development to obtain this level of results and competence.
· Technical high school Diploma or post-Diploma in Mechanical with typically 5 years of work experience in similar product.
TECHNICAL KNOW-HOW
Good knowledge of products and their main applications
Deep knowledge of design rules (quotations, tolerances both dimensional and geometrical)
Good knowledge of engine technology and components
Deep knowledge of materials properties
Good knowledge of machining and production processes
