Job Description

Center of Technical Excellence Vehicle Structures Process Integrator

The Aeronautics Engineering organization is seeking an Engineer Aeronautical/ Principal Engineer Aeronautical – Vehicle Structures Integration to support the Vehicle Structures technical discipline within the newly established Vehicle Engineering (VE) CoTE. This role reports to the Aeronautics Systems (AS) Vehicle Integration Manager within the VE CoTE and is responsible for supporting the development of discipline-specific processes, technical manuals, and training to elevate technical excellence across the Vehicle Structures discipline. 

  

The Engineer Aeronautical/ Principal Engineer Aeronautical – Vehicle Structures Integration candidate will work closely with all the Vehicle Structures Discipline Process Technical Owners (DPTO) to deliver Sector wide technical discipline capabilities for processes, tools, and training within the Design, Structural Analysis, Material & Process, Liaison and Standard Parts disciplines. As an integrator, you will leverage prior execution experience and subject matter expertise within the CoTE and across the Sector to support continued development of discipline products, ensuring process excellence and promote compliance in collaboration with program technical leaders. 

  

The ideal Engineer Aeronautical/ Principal Engineer Aeronautical – Vehicle Structures Integration candidate combines an understanding and practical experience within the greater discipline with a passion for technical training and development, collaboration, and continuous improvement, a vision for digital solutions and integration within the ecosystem. This integrator will collaborate closely with other VE discipline leads and integrators within the CoTE. 

  

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Support strategic vision, operations and technical priorities for Vehicle Structures, aligned to long-term Sector strategy. 
  • Support projects with direction from the Design, Structural Analysis, Material & Process, Liaison and Standard Parts DPTOs, with a focus on process, tool, and training development, with a goal to strengthen technical excellence and workforce capabilities that result in improved business results. 
  • Partner with NG Fellows within the Vehicle Structures disciplines to advance Sector- and Enterprise-wide emerging technologies and future workforce capabilities. 
  • Supports the development and maintenance of Vehicle Structures Principles and Operating Practices (PrOP), Process Asset Library (PAL) manuals, and Nimbus Process Models, ensuring technical excellence and compliance in partnership with program execution teams 

  

This requisition may be filled at an Engineer Aeronautical, Structural, Material Processing / Principal Engineer Aeronautical, Structural, Material Processing level based on the qualifications below. 

  

Basic Qualifications: 

Engineer Aeronautical – Vehicle Structures Integration 

  • Bachelors Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related engineering experience  
  • Experience in Vehicle Structures program execution within an integrated product team environment that aligns to a technical background in a specific VS discipline area, such as Design, Structural Analysis, Material & Process, Liaison or Standard Parts 
  • Experience utilizing Vehicle Structures methods, tools, standards, and processes 
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and geographically dispersed teams 
  • Experience with or exposure to digital design initiatives and solutions 
  • Must have an active DoD secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) and eligibility for Top Secret/SCI 
  • Must be able to attain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR) 
  • Ability to travel as needed (approx. 25%) 

  

Principal Engineer Aeronautical – Vehicle Structures Integration 

  • Bachelors Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in STEM with 1 years of related engineering experience   
  • Experience in Vehicle Structures program execution within an integrated product team environment that aligns to a technical background in a specific VS discipline area, such as Design, Structural Analysis, Material & Process, Liaison or Standard Parts 
  • Experience utilizing Vehicle Structures methods, tools, standards, and processes 
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and geographically dispersed teams 
  • Experience with or exposure to digital design initiatives and solutions 
  • Must have an active DoD secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) and eligibility for Top Secret/SCI 
  • Must be able to attain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR) 
  • Ability to travel as needed (approx. 25%) 

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • BS or MS in STEM 
  • Current Special Program Access (PAR) 
  • Experience utilizing agile tools, including Microsoft 365 Lists/Power Automate, Confluence and JIRA 
  • Experience with NX, Teamcenter (CPLM) with Active Workspace, Microsoft 365, SharePoint  
  • Knowledge of industry practices for developing and utilizing engineering design and analysis software systems. 
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience leading process optimization. 

  

This position supports all Aeronautics Systems business divisions at all of the Aeronautics Systems primary geographic sites, including: Melbourne, FL; Palmdale, CA; San Diego, CA; and South Bay (El Segundo / Redondo Beach / Manhattan Beach), CA. This position is geographically flexible and can be based at any of the 4 locations listed above. 


Pay Range Based Off Locations:

Florida Level 2: $79,300 - $118,900

Florida Level 3: $98,400 - $147,600.00

California Level 2: $91,800 - $137,600

California Level 3: $114,000.00 - $171,000

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $137,600.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $171,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
