Join our team as a Product Health Engineer in Energy Systems!
The Role:
We are seeking a technically strong Product Health Engineer to improve the reliability and performance of energy systems used in industrial electric trucks. Working with lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells, chargers, power electronics, and vehicle interfaces, you’ll investigate real-world product issues, lead root cause analysis, and drive sustainable engineering solutions. You’ll collaborate across electrical, mechanical, controls, reliability, and field teams while using product performance insights to improve launched products and influence future designs.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Own system-level product health and sustaining engineering activities for launched products, including lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells, chargers, and energy-related vehicle hardware.
- Investigate complex field and product issues from initial diagnosis through root cause analysis (RCA), corrective and preventive action (CAPA), and implementation.
- Improve product reliability, performance, cost, warranty exposure, and total cost of ownership through data-driven design modifications and engineering strategies.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical interfaces, packaging, thermal and structural concerns, power distribution, sensors, controls, communications, and software/firmware, including CAN and CANopen.
- Define requirements and test plans, perform engineering calculations, and analyze test and field data to evaluate system reliability, durability, robustness, and energy-storage performance.
- Partner with product planning, advanced engineering, procurement, field service, test labs, reliability teams, suppliers, and customers to resolve cross-functional technical challenges.
- Apply lessons from existing products and field performance to new product development, continuous improvement, standardized engineering processes, and future design strategies.
- Develop and support engineering documentation, including specifications, test procedures, 5-Why analyses, BOMs, CAD models, drawings, standard work, and engineering change requests.
- Support third-party power-source testing and applicable product safety and regulatory requirements, including UL standards.
- Communicate technical progress, risks, and priorities to management and senior leadership; may lead small projects or major vehicle subsystems. Travel domestically up to 20%.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of post-graduation engineering experience in an industrial, manufacturing, automotive, material handling, or other product-based environment.
- Strong fundamentals in a core engineering discipline combined with the systems-level thinking needed to work across electrical, mechanical, controls, and software interfaces.
- Proven success analyzing complex technical problems and driving solutions from investigation and testing through implementation.
- Applied engineering experience involving product testing, data analysis, failure investigation, troubleshooting, and design improvement.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to influence without formal authority and explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- A self-directed, analytical, and solutions-focused approach to technical challenges, with an interest in energy storage, power electronics, controls, mechanical integration, and industrial electric power systems.
What Sets You Apart:
- Master’s degree in Engineering or MBA and/or 10+ years of experience in product engineering, sustaining engineering, reliability engineering, product health, or high-urgency issue resolution.
- Hands-on experience with lithium-ion battery systems, hydrogen fuel cells, chargers, power electronics, industrial trucks, or material handling equipment.
- Technical experience in areas such as mechanical packaging, thermal management, durability, electrical system integration, power distribution, wiring, sensing, diagnostics, or CAN/CANopen communications.
- Experience applying engineering and continuous improvement methods such as FMEA, RCA, CAPA, DOE, Kaizen, 5S, verification and validation, PLM, configuration control, DfM, DAQ, KPIs, or state-of-health (SOH) metrics.
- Background working with customers, dealers, field service teams, or large-scale/global manufacturing operations, including product safety or regulatory compliance such as UL 2267, UL 2271, UL 2580, or UL 583.
Where and When You’ll Work:
- This is an in-person role located at our Greene, New York office—ideal for those who thrive in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.
What Your Total Compensation & Benefits Package will look like:
Salary - $94,000 - $120,500 per year. Compensation depends on the selected candidate’s education and experience.
