Position Summary

Join our 2026 Yes Energy Internship Program and enjoy the opportunity to work on exciting projects to shape your career in Energy Market Analytics (EnCompass). The intern position will support the EnCompass team through a focused analytics project evaluating short-term electricity market forecasts and models. This internship offers hands-on experience working with wholesale power market data and analytics while contributing meaningful insights that help guide future forecasting and product improvements. As an intern on our EnCompass team, you will learn how wholesale power market data is analyzed and transformed into insights that support customer decision-making.

  • Internship Program Period: 6/1/2026 - 8/7/2026
  • Full-Time; temporary w/ no benefits
  • Hybrid
  • Location: Yes Energy Boulder, CO office
  • Hourly Rate Range: 
    • $19.00/hr - 1st year Intern
    • $20.00/hr - 2nd year Intern
    • $21.00/hr - 3rd year Intern
    • $22.00/hr - 4th year Intern
  • Reports to: Vice President, Engineering

The intern will learn and be exposed to

  • Hands-on experience analyzing wholesale electricity market forecasts
  • Exposure to real-world modeling, forecasting and analytics workflows
  • Mentorship from experienced energy market analysts
  • A completed, portfolio-ready analytics project with real business impact

Project Work
Your official project depends on what skills you have and what skills you are looking to develop. They could include the following:

  • Comparing EnCompass short-term model outputs to ISO historical market data
  • Developing and applying accuracy metrics to evaluate model performance
  • Creating charts, tables, and summary materials to clearly communicate results
  • Providing insights that help inform future model, forecasting and analytics enhancements

Requirements

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detail
  • Experience with Excel; familiarity with SQL, Python, or data analysis tools is a plus
  • Ability to interpret data and communicate findings clearly and concisely
  • Interest in energy markets, forecasting, or market analytics
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly
  • Strong understanding of Google Suite for Business or MS Office
  • Strong analytical, research and organizational skills
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Ability to prioritize based on opportunities and effectively multitask
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A strong desire to learn, grow, and explore new things
  • Pursuing a degree in Economics, Engineering, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Finance, or a related field with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze short-term EnCompass model outputs and compare results to ISO historical market data
  • Assess model accuracy using clear, well-defined metrics
  • Identify patterns, trends, and areas for potential model or analytics improvement
  • Create clear summaries, visuals, and documentation to communicate findings
  • Collaborate with energy market analysts and product stakeholders for guidance and feedback
  • Ensure analytical work is well-organized, reproducible, and clearly documented

Preferred Skills

  • Coursework or experience related to electricity markets or power systems
  • Experience creating data visualizations
  • Familiarity with time series data or forecast evaluation concepts
  • Basic programming or scripting experience

In accordance with Colorado law, the range provided is Yes Energy’s reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may be higher or lower based on non-discriminatory factors such as location, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
