Why This Role Matters: At SWA, our consultants play a pivotal role in transforming the city's most challenging structures into high-performing, sustainable buildings through decarbonization initiatives.
As a Mid-Level Energy Engineer on our BODE (Building Operations, Decarbonization & Efficiency) team, you are the "boots on the ground" for this transition. Every boiler we decommission and every electrification strategy you help implement directly lowers the carbon ceiling. You will be taking the lead in turning ambitious climate goals, like Local Law 97, into reality. You’ll be doing work that fundamentally improves the cities we live in.
The proposed annual salary range for this position is $70,000 to $100,000 based on a 40-hour work schedule. The final salary may vary depending on confirmed job-related skills and experience.

Perform project work for commissioning, energy auditing, and retro-commissioning of new construction and existing buildings.

Complete technical project work including reviewing construction documents, submittals, and code requirements, developing testing plans, and inspecting installations.

Assume primary responsibility for executing small projects, including financials.

Lead communication with building owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors.

Work with internal stakeholders including project managers, energy modelers, and sustainability and accessibility consultants.

Assist with project proposals under guidance from Senior Engineers.

Train entry level staff members when applicable.
Who You Are:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related building science field.

You know your way around an HVAC system. 2+ years of relevant experience working with HVAC systems in large multi-family or commercial buildings.

You’ve had experience conducting field inspections related to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.

You’ve spent time onsite conducting MEP inspections.

You have a solid grasp of HVAC systems and emerging high-performance alternatives.
Technical Skills:

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to type, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. Travel Requirements: Occasional overnight travel may be required (Less than 10%). Frequent local field visits in the NYC Metro area will be necessary (approximately 40-50%).
Working Environment: Recent hires may be required to work in-office five days per week during onboarding, with potential for a hybrid schedule (three days in-office) post onboarding with flexibility based on job duties, and site work.
