Indera is looking for an Employment Specialist 2 - Farm

 

Position Summary:

Provide direct and indirect employment services to persons enrolled in Supported Employment (SEMP and ACCES-VR), Pathway to Employment and Community Based Prevocational Services. Assist Employment Services Coordinator in the development and implementation of the various employment services offered through Indera at various locations including Indera at Doc Marshall Farm.

Qualifications

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and indirect services and supports to individuals receiving Supported Employment, Community Based Prevocational, Pathway to Employment, and any other employment services offered at the agency, as indicated in each person's Staff Action Plan(s) and Life Plan.
  • Prepare and continuously update schedule to ensure that all persons receiving services on your caseload are receiving the services for which they are enrolled. This includes arranging for coverage if you are unable to work.
  • Provide timely reports on individuals’ progress, including daily documentation, and other as needed or requested.
  • Provide skill training and assistance to individuals receiving employment services by learning specific work duties and performance standards for jobs service recipients obtain (e.g., doing the task). At Indera at Doc Marshall Farm this would include learning tasks such as housekeeping (vacuuming), janitorial (cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash receptacles, washing windows, cleaning bars on horse stalls), maintenance (painting), groundskeeping (mowing, weedwacking, raking, shoveling) and grooming horses (this does not include training or riding horses).
  • Develop work-related behaviors in service recipients such as time and attendance, appropriate dress, communication skills, accepting supervision and travel skills.
  • Provide job development in the community. (Job development including, but not limited to, situational assessments, observations, site tours, job shadows in order to assist the individual with identifying what type of job the individual is best suited for and interested in).
  • Model work-related behaviors for service recipients such as time and attendance, appropriate dress, communication skills, accepting supervision direction, and travel skills.
  • Act as Liaison between individual, family, employer, co-workers of individuals, other service providers, and Employment Services Coordinator, to ensure individuals are receiving the appropriate services.
  • Assist the individual to acquire a sense of belonging at the work site, encouraging an understanding of and participation in employee programs which involves socialization with coworkers.
  • Facilitate the development of positive relationships between individuals and their employers and co-workers.
  • Train co-workers and communicate with supervisors on how to best work with newly placed individuals.
  • Provide personal care assistance as needed to ensure the individual’s safety, health and hygiene.
  • Follow and maintain days and hours of services as assigned, providing safe transportation as needed.
  • Attend training and other meetings as required.
  • Conduct self in a manner as to always contribute to maximum individual growth and in accordance with all regulations and agency policy and procedures.
  • Accomplish other job-related tasks / duties as needed or assigned.
Essential Skills:
  • Ability to work independently in individual’s homes and in community settings with sound decision making and judgment with a focus on fading support (in supported employment) as the person increases skill level Team player with effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assist an individual with employment support needs, such as breaking down tasks in manageable pieces, modeling the task, redirection, assisting with reasonable accommodations, and facilitating a relationship with the employer and coworkers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. If applicable.
  • Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • 2-3 years related experience working with people with intellectual / developmental disabilities.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills required.
  • Flexibility with assignments and schedule required.
  • Valid driver’s license; reliable vehicle; proof of current auto insurance; acceptable driving record required.
  • Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community and abide by

Indera’s technology policies.

 

 

 

 

Work location: Syracuse - The Farm areas & Onondaga County

Hours and days: Monday-Friday 8:00am -4:00pm

Compensation: $22.19 -$25.19 per hour

Non -Exempt

40 hours per week, including one-hour paid lunch

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate degree or higher
  • 2-3 years related experience working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills and flexibility with assignments and schedule
  • Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, current auto insurance, acceptable driving record
  • Technology available to download and use multiple apps and follow agency technology policies
  • Ability to provide personal care assistance as needed to ensure safety, health, and hygiene
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs
