AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help ensure a welcoming and positive orientation (first day) and onboarding (first year) experience for all new hires. Responsible for coordinating with various departments, managing documentation, and providing support to new employees.
- Execution of the orientation and onboarding programs so that new employees feel a sense of belonging and that they are prepared to succeed in their new positions.
- Specific responsibilities as to the new hire orientation include:
- Responsible for facilitation of all aspects of the weekly new hire orientation for employees and contractors, including but not limited to handling all logistics for orientation (e.g., room reservation and setup, scheduling, preparation of welcome materials, etc.), serving as the lead facilitator/presenter/trainer, and timely completion of the I-9 process and other required new hire paperwork.
- Work collaboratively with Talent Acquisition, Compensation and Benefits, Technical Training, and other business leaders in facilitating the weekly orientation sessions.
- Bring forth ideas for updates and improvements to the orientation programs.
- Identify all required updates needed for orientation materials and presentations, and update and/or facilitate updating of orientation materials and presentations as needed.
- Create and maintain accurate employee records.
- Stay updated on best practices and trends in orientation.
- Specific responsibilities as to the onboarding program include:
- Assist with facilitation and monitoring of all aspects of the onboarding program, including but not limited to 30/60/90 day check-ins, engagement opportunities for new hires, and the Austal Allies program.
- Bring forth ideas for updates and improvements to onboarding programs.
- Assist with the development of new or modified onboarding programs.
- Work collaboratively with all business functions in executing a successful onboarding program.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Identify and execute on opportunities to celebrate new employee “wins” through coordination with the Manager of Employee Experience and other management representatives as appropriate.
- Elevate new employee concerns, challenges, and feedback to Manager of Employee Experience and other management representatives as appropriate.
- Report on the progress of new hires and the effectiveness of the onboarding program.
- Stay updated on best practices and trends in onboarding.
- Support event planning activities for all employee engagement initiatives.
- Provide input on event logistics, set up, and amenities.
- Participate in on-site events, including set up, greeting participants, and ensuring smooth execution.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- BA in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Leadership, Training, Education, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 0-2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, organizational development, education, training, recruiting, compliance, or employee relations; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
- Demonstrated experience with orientation and onboarding programs preferred.
- Highly organized self-starter with excellent organization and time management skills.
- Demonstrated experience with public speaking and making presentations to large groups.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization. Excellent writing skills required.
- Possess an extremely high attention to detail.
- Track record for delivering results through successful program implementation in a client-facing, change management, or consulting role.
- Proven relationship-building skills with employees, internal and external partners, and diverse groups
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with management across all levels of an organization, including analyzing information, identifying needs, developing action plans, identifying deliverables, and presenting recommendations/results.
- Must demonstrate strong ethics and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products with strong experience with Excel and PowerPoint required.
- Knowledge of and experience with Workday HCM and Learning module a plus.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects concurrently and independently with minimal supervision

- Provides direction and support to all employees regarding Austal’s orientation and onboarding programs.
- Exercises a moderate degree of latitude and creativity.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
