The Director, Consumer Growth & Experience Strategy is responsible for leading The Hartford's consumer growth strategy across the employee lifecycle, ensuring marketing investments drive measurable outcomes in enrollment participation, product adoption, customer engagement, retention, and lifetime value.
This role serves as the leader for consumer engagement , consumer lifecycle marketing, audience segmentation, personalization, and growth analytics into a unified operating model. The position is accountable for translating customer insights, business priorities, market trends, and consumer expectations into strategies that improve customer outcomes and accelerate profitable growth.
The Director partners closely with Distribution, Product, Customer Experience, Technology, Enrollment Operations, Benefits Technology partners, Sales, Strategic Planning, Digital Experience, and Enterprise Marketing leaders to establish a best-in-class consumer growth capability.
Responsibilities
Consumer Growth Strategy & Leadership
- Partner with EB CMO, Head of Customer Growth, AVP of B2B Marketing , AVP of Partner Strategies and AVP of Enrollment Operations to establish the long-term consumer growth vision and strategic roadmap.
- Develop annual and multi-year growth strategies aligned to Employee Benefits business objectives, including growth targets for new sales within broker partnerships, key HR Tech partnerships, as well as add-issue opportunities within current book
- Lead operating model that leverages current access to third party data sources, advises and partners on first-party data investments
- Establish an E2E journey framework spanning awareness, consideration, enrollment, onboarding, engagement, claims, retention, and advocacy; keeps current with VOC and VOE, as well as metrics dashboards
- Partner with Customer Experience and Digital Experience teams to improve end-to-end experiences, including but not limited to, decision support optimization and key demos
- Lead strategy to create B2C value proposition, and scaled content used at case level supporting selection of benefits
- Partner with CMO and Director of Market Launch and Enterprise leads in Research, Paid Advertising, Media Relations to support top of funnel Brand performance
Enrollment & Adoption Growth
- Establish B2C strategies that improve participation, product election rates, and benefit awareness.
- Drive innovation in enrollment experiences, decision support, personalization, and consumer education.
Business Planning & Investment Prioritization
- Establish prioritization frameworks that align resources to the highest-value opportunities.
- Evaluate growth opportunities across customer segments, industries, demographics, and lifecycle stages.
- Recommend investment strategies and resource allocation based on expected business impact.
- Influence enterprise planning through consumer growth intelligence and performance insights.
Executive Influence & Team Leadership
- Serve as advisor to EB leadership regarding consumer behavior, enrollment trends, and growth opportunities.
- Present strategic recommendations and business cases to executive leadership.
- Build and develop new team of 3-4 B2C professionals
- Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, accountability and customer-centricity.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of Employee Benefits industry experience in growth marketing, consumer strategy, customer experience, enrollment strategy, digital marketing, or related disciplines required.
- Experience leading enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.
- Proven ability to influence executive leaders and drive organizational change.
- Strong strategic planning, business acumen, and analytical capabilities.
- Exceptional communication and executive storytelling skills.
- Experience leading customer experience transformation initiatives.
- Experience building personalization and lifecycle marketing capabilities.
- People leadership experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
