The Optical Networks System & Automation group develops pluggable transceiver modules for coherent optical fiber transmission. The applications include Communication Service Provider (CSP) network node as well as intra and inter data center connections. Our team is part of a module development team comprising hardware development, full custom ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits) design, experts for optical components and firmware (FW) development. We are closely working together with all functions required from the product definition to manufacturing.
We are expanding our firmware (FW) team and looking for highly motivated engineers to join us in developing the next generations of transmission systems. The FW team is responsible for designing, integrating, and verifying all software parts required for an optical coherent transceiver module. This includes software targeting a complex multi-processor system embedded in custom hardware, low level driver software, algorithms controlling optical components and the digital signal processor, higher layer control software and the management interface application.
Responsibilities- Independent development of DSP / ARM embedded software using a Real Time Operating System (RTOS).
- Implement and validate the code, document the test results including creation of automated test.
- Work in interdisciplinary teams (HW (hardware), ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits), optics, factory).
- Cover systems engineering aspects and documentation (collect and understand features and dependencies / impact; work out feature implementation details; define SW UG (software user guide); interface to SW).
- We are looking for experts on different topics, so the actual task profile might be a subset of the following:
- Design optimized control concepts for optical devices partially with non-linear characteristics including simulation and stability analysis,
- Expert for DSP (Digital Signal Processing) in the field of coherent optical communication,
- Expert for high-speed ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter)/ DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter),
- Define the controller HW architecture including CPU, MPU, interrupt controller, memory, peripherals, interconnect etc.,
- Develop AI solutions for our customers and internal AI solutions,
- Provide automation solutions (e.g. Jenkins),
- Create and maintain device drivers and link drivers including PLLs (Phase-Locked Loops),
- Expert for various protocols used in the field of coherent optical communication.
Must have:
- Master degree in electrical engineering / computer science / computer engineering or a related field (or Bachelor Degree with + 5 years of experience).
- Fluent in English language (spoken and written) and intermediate in German language (spoken and written, at least B1- B2 preferred with the aim to become fluent).
- Profound knowledge of C programming language and knowledge of C++, Python with very good understanding of embedded programming concepts.
- Experience with revision control systems (e.g. Git & Gerrit, Bitbucket).
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with multi-site, cross-functional, international teams.
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of components for optical transmission (laser, EDFA, MZM, …) and advanced control loop theory and communications theory and experience in feedback control systems and digital signal processing.
- Knowledge of coherent optical communication systems and signal processing and of system theory for optical communication systems.
- Experience with Eclipse based IDE (Integrated Development Environment) or Visual Studio Code.
- Experience creating AI solution.
- Knowledge of analog and digital circuitry design including PLL design and with DSP and/or ARM detailed controller architecture.
- Knowledge of OTN/OCH and/or GBE frame structure.
- Basic knowledge in electronics/ EMI and optic.
- Ability to work independently and self-organized.
- Flexibility and ability to cope with project pressure.
