The Role
Own and guide embedded firmware development for next-generation wearable neurostimulation medical devices. Responsibilities include reviewing an external development partner’s work, shaping firmware architecture, ensuring compliance with medical device standards, and contributing hands-on to development, debugging, testing, verification, and documentation. The role will also help establish an internal firmware capability and collaborate with electronics, software, quality, and regulatory teams.
Summary Generated by Built In

Take ownership of the firmware behind a product that's already changing lives — and help shape what comes next.

Neupulse has launched the first version of its wearable neurostimulation device, designed to improve the lives of people with Tourette's. It's already selling ahead of expectations, and we're now developing the next generation, working towards medical device approval and preparing for international growth.

We're looking for an experienced Embedded Firmware Engineer who's ready for more ownership, greater technical influence and the opportunity to help build an in-house firmware capability.

The opportunity

Our firmware is currently developed by an external engineering partner, who are already progressing with version two of the product.

You'll initially work closely with them, getting to know the system, guiding technical decisions and ensuring firmware development meets the quality, safety and documentation standards needed for medical device approval.

Over time, you'll help bring firmware development in-house, shaping the architecture, processes and standards for current and future products.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Taking technical ownership of the firmware, reviewing and guiding the work of our external development partner.

  • Supporting V2 and future product development, influencing firmware architecture and technical decisions.

  • Ensuring firmware is developed, tested and documented to meet medical device regulatory requirements, including IEC 62304.

  • Building the foundations for bringing firmware development in-house.

  • Contributing hands-on to development, debugging, testing and problem-solving.

  • Collaborating with electronics, software, quality and regulatory colleagues to deliver safe, reliable products.

The team

You'll join a small, close-knit team who genuinely care about the technology they're building and the difference it can make to people living with Tourette's.

Working directly with our Lead Engineer and incoming CTO, alongside a growing team of electronics engineers and wider development specialists, you'll have a real voice in technical decisions and the direction of the product.

We're collaborative, practical and hands-on. Everyone contributes, shares ideas and gets involved wherever they're needed.

What we're looking for

You might already be in a senior firmware role, or you might be an experienced engineer who's ready to take that next step.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Strong embedded C/C++ experience, ideally with STM32, ARM Cortex-M and FreeRTOS.

  • Experience developing firmware for safety-critical or highly regulated products, ideally in medical devices or aerospace/aviation.

  • An understanding of structured software development, verification, traceability and regulatory documentation. Experience with IEC 62304 or DO-178C would be particularly relevant.

  • Knowledge of low-power, battery-operated devices and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

  • The confidence to review technical work, challenge decisions and collaborate across engineering disciplines.

  • A practical, adaptable approach and the willingness to roll up your sleeves.

  • Full, unrestricted right to work in the UK (we are unable to sponsor work permits now or in the future).

You don't need previous team management experience. What matters is your technical judgement, your ability to take ownership and your ambition to grow.

Why Neupulse?

Our first product is already commercially available, with sales exceeding expectations. We've secured investment to accelerate growth, we're seeing strong interest from the US and European markets, and we're expanding our engineering team as we develop the next generation of our technology.

But what makes this opportunity different is the impact.

You'll be taking ownership of technology that people use in their daily lives, helping improve the lives of those living with Tourette's.

It's a chance to join a growing business at a pivotal stage, make a genuine technical contribution and build something you can be proud of.
