The Role

We are seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and support system software for embedded control of WiTricity's wireless power systems. Their focus will be on empowering the wireless transfer of grid power to wireless energy using the control of power electronics. Qualified candidates will have a solid understanding of embedded programming, microcontroller architectures embedded software implementations, embedded software development process and testing.
This position can be based in Watertown, MA, Midway, GA or Salt Lake City, UT. Candidates must be local to one of the listed locations, or willing to relocate. This position will have a hybrid work schedule consisting of a minimum of 3-days per week in office.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and document embedded software solutions for the functionality of next generation systems.
  • Conduct development in embedded Linux environment.
  • Implement power electronics control algorithm in firmware.
  • Write and conduct tests on new embedded software features and publications.
  • Work collaboratively with firmware team members and team members of other disciplines to integrate, test, and debug system components.
  • Support existing embedded software designs and provide hands-on support of system test and verification.
  • Use source control systems in place at WiTricity for the maintenance of the code base and to provide proper revision control and release structure.
  • Be able to multi-task and independently manage the requirements of several projects in parallel.
  • Provide maintenance, support, and development of version control and source code configuration management.
  • Responsible for software release process and continuous integration.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure for embedded software testing.
  • Ensure that customer requirements are understood, met and applied within the defined scopes and the employee area of work responsibility
  • Identify product and process special characteristics with compliance to customer- or WiTricity-specified SC and symbols.
  • Use engineering principles and discipline through mentoring, training and project reviews including FMEA, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Control Plan (CP) and Project Management.

Requirements:

  • BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in embedded programming design, power electronics and motor control. Post-graduate industry experience desired.
  • Familiarity with C/C++, Bash and Batch scripting.
  • Experience with Python scripting.
  • Proficient with microcontroller IDE design/development tools.
  • Proficient in lab debug, including usage of power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators and in-circuit debuggers.
  • Ability to follow circuit schematics and PCB layout drawings.
  • Understanding of basic communication protocols.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and a positive attitude.
  • Energetically active with a sense of urgency and individual accountability, can work independently, and be a reliable team player.
  • Knowledge of product hardware and software engineering risk analysis methods with execution (FTA, D/PFMEA, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of ASPICE, ISO 26262 and ISO 21434
  • Experience to achieve and maintain the integrity and security of an embedded software system over all its lifecycle phases


Desired Skills:

  • Familiar with a variety of microcontrollers including Microchip, TI, NXP, and ARM-based embedded processors.
  • C#, Python, EXI, JSON, and XML experience.
  • Experience Embedded Linux.
  • Experience with CANbus, SPI, I2C, RS-232, IEEE 802.11, TCP/IP, and HTTP protocols.
  • Experience developing RTOS, device drivers, control systems, and communications protocols.
  • Experience with standards-based feature design and code development.
