In this position...
The ELMS Web Applications Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading the team who designs, codes, tests, releases and supports ELMS for Ford’s VEV organization. Vehicle Evaluation and Verification (VEV) is responsible for testing and verification of Ford’s global vehicles. The Enhanced Laboratory Management System (ELMS) is the locally developed and supported web-based suite of test lab, prototype planning and business applications to facilitate and manage the work performed by VEV.
The ideal people leader will apply experience and passion for delivering applications and tools that improve the management of processes and operations with high-quality, reliable data and information.
The most successful candidate will:

  • Partner with operations teams and process leads to develop and deploy robust solutions: effective, performant and reliable applications and tools that satisfy/support process needs.
  • Motivate and assist the team to exercise strong process modelling and coding skills with creativity, resourcefulness, ingenuity and self-motivation.
  • Identify the need for and help coordinate the assessment and adoption of updates to technology for the hosting infrastructure and code base supporting ELMS.
  • Drive robust and rapid issue resolution that solves for local and global system faults / outages with speed and long-term reliability.
  • Ensure 100% compliance to IT Systems Controls per Ford’s Information Security Policy (ISP) requirements as a Business Managed Application/System.
  • Adopt a clear architectural view of transaction data in our applications as a valuable and readily available asset for process analytics and insight discovery.
  • Promote/facilitate the proper and effective use of AI tools and resources to support the code generation for the applications. Identify and enable AI-based functions as useful integrations to enhance core functionalities and deliver breakthrough capabilities.

What you'll do...

ELMS Team Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Regional and Global expansion of ELMS applications in the test laboratory and business environments. Extend ELMS benefits to new facilities and/or organizations with steadily increasing feature content.

  • Investigate opportunities to integrate/automate labor-intensive or disconnected data management/reporting functions and utilize the ELMS environment to deliver substantial quality and efficiency improvements for operations and organizations.

  • Work collaboratively with Corporate IT to ensure appropriate levels of independence, integration, and control are established on all systems. Assist with infrastructure/server configuration, maintenance and enhancement. Deliver infrastructure as code in cloud environments.

  • Develop reliable and secure connections between the ELMS environment and other Ford Corporate IT or Business Managed systems. Utilize and/or help develop reliable APIs. Provision and populate cloud data repositories.

  • Enable efforts lead by other teams who provide test site automation and reporting capabilities for lab performance, metrics generation, and business automation. Includes connections to third-party lab systems.

  • Collaborate to update/build shared resources and frameworks that will improve delivery efficiency and enable sustainable growth. Establish best-practices and libraries.

  • Develop and expand ELMS system performance and utilization tools to gauge application quality and customer usage to guide future deployment.

  • Leverage rapidly evolving web application technologies, including cloud platforms to further improve and modernize the ELMS function/feature set. Utilize AI appropriately and effectively, for the coding activities. Apply AI as an integrated function for automation/logic use cases. Support extension of ELMS into tablet/mobile platforms.

This position is leadership level 6 and ranges from $115,500-$218,100. 


Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

Qualifications

You'll have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

  • 5+ years’ experience with operations management processes and supporting software tools creation and development.

  • Familiarity with systems and tools found in domains tangential to prototype build plan and test operations management processes; e.g., finance, purchasing, capital spend, supplier relations, ERP, vehicle program management, PLM-System Requirements, data acquisition systems, real time control systems.

  • Experience with the technologies and methods necessary for building effective and robust web applications that support vital transactional processes and workflows.

  • Experience leading and developing a diverse team with skills and experience.

  • 5+ years’ MS Office Applications experience – Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint

  • Experience discerning and defining use cases and the applicable user interfaces through careful process inquiry and analysis. Selecting and assembling user interfaces for robust transactional inputs and workflows.
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong familiarity or background applying coding languages / technologies – HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, Java, SQL.

  • Having a good understanding or direct experience defining or using data structures: various models including relational schemas as well as semi-structured; e.g. JSON data.

  • Experience with these technologies are helpful: Git/GitHub, Google Cloud Platform, Miro, Jira, API Design, Authentication and Security models/methods, MS Power BI, MS Power Apps, Mobile App development.

Skills Required
