As an Electronics Engineering Intern here at Honeywell Technologies, you will gain hands-on experience in designing, developing, testing, and supporting electronic circuits, embedded hardware, and instrumentation for our products and manufacturing test operations. This internship offers the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers while contributing to innovative projects that directly impact product performance, production efficiency, and quality, and to develop the practical skills and industry knowledge to launch your engineering career.
During your internship, you will report directly to our AME Manager, who will support your learning and development, and you’ll work out of our Poole, UK location on a Hybrid work schedule.
Throughout the internship, you will learn how our electronic designs, sensing solutions, and test systems are made safe, reliable, efficient, and compliant with industry standards, and see first-hand how your work contributes to the performance of our products and manufacturing systems.
At Honeywell Technologies, our people leaders play a critical role in developing and supporting our employees to help them perform at their best and drive change across the company. Help to build a strong, diverse team by recruiting talent, identifying, and developing successors, driving retention and engagement, and fostering an inclusive culture.
ResponsibilitiesWHAT YOU WILL LEARN AND DO:
- Learn how to design, develop, and validate analogue, digital, and mixed-signal electronic circuits, including schematics, PCB layouts, and embedded hardware, to meet product and production requirements.
- Gain experience in selecting components, integrating sensors, microcontrollers, and power management circuits, and developing or supporting firmware and test fixtures to ensure seamless integration with product and manufacturing processes.
- Develop practical skills in board-level testing, debugging, fault-finding, and root-cause analysis on electronic assemblies and test equipment, and learn how corrective actions improve reliability and performance.
- Become familiar with the safety, EMC, and environmental regulations and standards that electronic designs must meet (e.g., IEC 61010, IEC 61326, RoHS, CE/UKCA, and ATEX/IECEx where applicable).
- Learn how to prepare and maintain technical documentation, including bills of materials, design specifications, test procedures, and design and change records.
- Work alongside cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, quality, and manufacturing, to see how electronic requirements and specifications are defined and how NPI builds are supported.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- A foundational understanding of analogue and digital circuit design, power supply design, signal conditioning, and microcontroller-based embedded systems, gained through your studies or projects.
- Some familiarity with reading and producing electronic schematics and PCB layouts using EDA/CAD tools (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, KiCad, or similar), with a willingness to develop this further.
IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAVE:
- Interest in progressing towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or further study in Electronic Engineering or a related field.
- Any exposure to a manufacturing environment, electronics design, design for manufacture and test (DFM/DFT), or test engineering, whether through coursework, projects, or previous work experience.
- Some experience with embedded firmware (e.g., C/C++), wireless connectivity, instrumentation, or sensor technologies through personal, academic, or hobby projects.
- Curiosity and a developing analytical and problem-solving approach.
- Enthusiasm for learning and working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for innovation and a desire to grow through continuous improvement.
