Who We Are:

At Voltify, we are building the next generation of rail - battery locomotives that fast charge autonomously and dynamically through a dedicated self-sustained microgrid network.

We are bringing back the power to the industry and eliminating the dependency on fossil fuels.

Lowering the rail industries main expense - energy - by more than 20%.

This is over $3B yearly just in North America.

We are already working with some of the largest global rail companies with over $50M in contingent orders.

We have raised over $30M from top tier funds and strategics and rapidly growing.

Our founding team has a proven track record in building billion $ public companies in renewable energy and infrastructure.

About The Role:

We’re looking for a skilled Electronic/Electrical Engineer to collaborate on the design of our battery electric locomotive. This is a hands-on role where you'll work across the full electrical system lifecycle—from design and integration to testing and production optimization.

We want a driven, fast-paced self-learner who thrives in multidisciplinary environments and isn't afraid to take on technical challenges in a rapidly growing company.

We offer a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and the opportunity to shape the future of rail technology while building a generational multi-billion dollar company.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate on system design and architecture for a battery electric locomotive
  • Partner with production engineering to optimize designs for manufacturing (DFM)
  • Develop schematic designs and low-speed PCB layouts for control systems
  • Design wire harnesses and cable routing for high-reliability applications
  • Implement robust communication protocols including CAN Bus, Ethernet, ModBus, and board-level protocols (I2C, SPI)
  • Design controllers and embedded systems for harsh industrial/automotive/locomotive environments
  • Conduct system and subsystem electrical testing, including automated test development
  • Integrate embedded systems and controllers with mechanical and software teams
  • Implement EMC mitigation strategies for high-voltage DC systems
  • Support embedded software integration and Linux-based system configurations
  • Ensure electrical safety in high-voltage DC environments (up to 1500V+)

What We’re Looking For:

  • 3+ years of experience in electrical/electronic system design (automotive, marine, industrial, or rail preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with high voltage DC systems (1500V+)
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools - we use KiCAD
  • Experience with communication protocols: CAN Bus, Ethernet, ModBus, I2C, SPI
  • Understanding of embedded systems and controller integration - we use STM32
  • Familiarity with design techniques for harsh environments (vibration, temperature, EMC/EMI)
  • Basic Linux experience and comfort with automated testing concepts
  • Knowledge of wire harness design and routing principles
  • Experience with EMC/EMI mitigation techniques
  • Nice to have: Safety-critical system design experience (ISO 26262, EN 50126/8/9, or similar)
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure startup environments
  • Proactive self-starter who can execute with minimal supervision
  • Passion for clean energy and sustainable transportation
  • Bonus: Experience with battery electric vehicles, BMS systems, or locomotive/rail applications
  • Bonus: Have built EN 50155 compliant devices, or familiarity with the standard.
  • Bonus 2: Loves trains

Skills Required

  • 3+ years of experience in electrical or electronic system design
  • Hands-on experience with high-voltage DC systems at 1500V or higher
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, including KiCAD
  • Experience with CAN Bus, Ethernet, ModBus, I2C, and SPI communication protocols
  • Understanding of embedded systems and controller integration, including STM32
  • Familiarity with design for harsh environments involving vibration, temperature, and EMC/EMI
  • Basic Linux experience and familiarity with automated testing concepts
  • Knowledge of wire harness design and routing principles
  • Experience with EMC/EMI mitigation techniques
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure startup environments
  • Proactive self-starter able to execute with minimal supervision
  • Safety-critical system design experience with ISO 26262, EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, or similar
  • Experience with battery electric vehicles, BMS systems, or locomotive/rail applications
  • Experience building EN 50155-compliant devices or familiarity with the standard
