ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, automation and installation of machines, tools, equipment and in the maintenance of buildings, and utility systems of the plant. Leads plant efforts in standardizing plant equipment and automating production machinery operation and reliability personally or through the leadership & development of assigned employees. 




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews job orders to determine work priorities. Schedules repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment to ensure continuous production operations
  • Assess plant equipment and identify opportunities for standardizing operator interface with the equipment.
  • Coordinates activities of workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products
  • Learn operator actions for operation of equipment and identify opportunities for automation.
  • Directs maintenance activities on electronic system evaluations & automation Opportunities in support of production operations—With a goal of standardization & equipment reliability
  • Prepare appropriation requests for equipment installations and for modifications to existing equipment.
  • Perform the planning function for installation and modification projects
  • Develops preventive maintenance programs in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff
  • Develop PLC, HMI, and Drive Control programming to accomplish project objectives, increase equipment functionality & reliability
  • Reviews production, quality control and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities
  • Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards
  • Plans, develops and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs and effect greater utilization of labor and materials
  • Reviews new product plans and discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers
  • May be called upon to troubleshoot machine problems.
  • Promote and teach good troubleshooting regimen.
  • Requisitions tools, equipment and supplies required for operations
  • Directs training and indoctrination of workers to improve performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures
  • Confers with management , engineering, production and quality assurance personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment

  • Ability to observe and understand manufacturing processes and apply technical innovation.

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent and eight to ten years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Technical school is desirable
  • Directly supervises 3-10 employees in the maintenance section. Carries out supervisory & automation  responsibilities; in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Skills Required

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent
  • Eight to ten years related experience and/or training
  • Direct supervisory experience managing 3-10 employees
  • Experience developing PLC, HMI, and Drive Control programming
  • Experience planning and executing equipment installation and modification projects
  • Ability to develop preventive maintenance programs
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Technical school (desirable)
