Summary Generated by Built In

At Roto, we design and build immersive experiences that spark curiosity, inspire engagement, and bring stories to life. As an Electrical Technologist, you’ll be a key part of this process—prototyping, fabricating, assembling, integrating, and testing the electronic and audio-visual components that bring hands-on experiences to life.

This is a multidisciplinary, hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced production environment. Working under the direction of the Electrical Production Manager, you’ll work closely with designers, engineers, and fabricators to develop, refine, and install custom electronic systems for interactive exhibits and media-based experiences.

If you’re technically skilled, detail-oriented, and passionate about building experiences that blend electronics, mechanics, and digital media, this is an opportunity to work on high-profile projects and push the boundaries of experiential storytelling.

Essential Functions (include, but are not limited to)

  • Electronic Fabrication & Assembly – Build, wire, and integrate custom control boxes, A/V racks, and exhibit electronics, ensuring they meet Roto’s quality and safety standards.
  • Prototyping & Testing – Develop and test new exhibit systems and devices, troubleshooting performance issues and refining functionality.
  • Software & Programming – Program microcontrollers (Arduino, C++), PLCs, and specialized show control systems used in museum and entertainment installations.
  • Exhibit Installation & Integration – Work hands-on to install electronic and A/V systems into final exhibit structures, collaborating with fabricators and designers.
  • Technical Documentation – Create and maintain wiring schematics, technical specifications, parts lists, and troubleshooting procedures to ensure long-term system reliability.
  • Material Sourcing & Inventory Management – Research, source, and order electronic components, sensors, lighting, and A/V equipment, while maintaining organized inventories.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration – Work alongside engineers, designers, and fabricators to bring interactive exhibits from concept to reality.
  • Exhibit Maintenance & Support – Assist with on-site troubleshooting, repairs, and warranty trips as needed to support previously installed exhibits.
Qualifications, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in electrical, electronic, or computer technology or a degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer technology, or related field.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot electronics, A/V, and control systems.
  • Experience with microcontrollers (Arduino in C++), with additional programming languages or PLC knowledge as a plus.
  • Experience with Touch Designer for interactive media programming is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, floor plans, and technical schematics.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, soldering, and fabrication equipment for assembling electrical and A/V systems.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills—able to maintain detailed technical records and troubleshoot based on prior builds.
  • Experience with CAD, SketchUp, or SolidWorks is a plus.
  • Bonus skills (not required but beneficial):
    • Power system design & high-voltage control box fabrication
    • VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives)
    • Circuit board design & 3D printing
    • Audio/video editing & installation

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in shop conditions, active construction sites, and installation environments.
  • Ability to stand, lift, bend, and work with hands-on fabrication tools for extended periods.
  • Must be able to operate computers, test equipment, and machinery as needed.
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally for installations or maintenance trips.
