We are seeking an experienced Electrical Substation Design Engineer to lead the design and execution of electrical substation projects supporting utility, industrial, and energy infrastructure clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with expertise in substation design, protection and control systems, and power system engineering who is looking to contribute to large-scale grid modernization and energy transition projects.
Position Overview
The Electrical Substation Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and supporting the delivery of high-voltage electrical substation projects from concept through construction. This role requires close collaboration with clients, engineering teams, procurement, and construction personnel to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Substation Design & Engineering
• Design and develop electrical substation systems for utility and industrial applications
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation
• Design Protection & Control (P&C) systems and coordinate equipment layouts
• Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, codes, and client requirements
Project Coordination
• Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Develop project schedules, budgets, and engineering deliverables
• Monitor project progress and recommend corrective actions when necessary
Technical Leadership
• Provide technical guidance throughout design, construction, and commissioning
• Review engineering work for quality, accuracy, and constructability
• Resolve complex engineering and design issues
Construction Support
• Support procurement activities by reviewing equipment specifications
• Provide technical assistance during construction, testing, and commissioning
• Respond to field questions and engineering change requests
Continuous Improvement
• Stay current with emerging substation technologies, engineering standards, and grid modernization initiatives
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and project delivery
Requirements
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)
• Minimum 3 years of electrical engineering experience focused on substation design
• Strong understanding of:
• Electrical substations
• High-voltage equipment
• Protection & Control systems
• Experience developing engineering drawings and technical documentation
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting utility or EPC projects
• Knowledge of substation construction and commissioning activities
• Familiarity with IEEE, NEC, NESC, and utility standards
• Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams
Skills Required
