About Maddox + You:

As an Electrical Engineer at Maddox, you will split your time between the office and the shop floor—tracing and testing control circuits, troubleshooting wiring issues, and drafting detailed electrical schematics. You’ll integrate metering systems, assist with transformer coil design, and review customer specifications to identify unique requirements.

You’ll lead efforts to standardize control wiring processes across facilities, improving quality and lead time.

Our shops run at a high pace and often the work is performed with stringent deadlines.

Maddox is growing quickly—in volume and scope—to continue to grow, Maddox needs good people. This is an ideal role for someone with strong character, stable lifestyle, and dedicated work ethic to work in a positive environment, be recognized, and have a fulfilling career.

  • You enjoy working at a computer and handle hands-on tasks with ease.
  • You work well individually or in a team and communicate clearly by phone, email, and chat.
  • You are a quick learner; not a know-it-all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Control Circuit Testing & Troubleshooting: Evaluate electrical control panels and devices to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Electrical Schematic Drafting: Develop detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams using CAD software, complying with standards such as UL 508A, NFPA 70 (NEC), and NFPA 79.
  • Shop Support & Process Standardization: Collaborate closely with technicians to address wiring questions, and standardize wiring processes across all Maddox facilities.
  • Transformer Design: Support magnetic and electrical design, including core and winding calculations, rewinds, and design modifications.
  • Review Customer Specifications: Understand the customer’s requirements, identify necessary exceptions, propose alternatives, and ensure our quote is accurate.
  • Metering & Measurement Systems: Source and equip transformers with the right metering systems for reliable and accurate operation.

Experience & Education:

We are seeking a candidate with exceptional aptitude, attitude, and ambition. Must have CAD experience, be proficient with spreadsheets, and have a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.

Must have (technical):

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency drafting wiring diagrams, electrical schematics

Valued, but not required:

  • Programming: scripting, software, embedded systems, or web development.
  • Designed and built something of note (software, electronics, or a machine)
  • Familiarity with transformer operation and design principles.
  • Understanding of electrical metering systems and their installation.
  • Familiarity with UL 508A, NEC (NFPA 70), and NFPA 79 standards.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
    • Strong communication abilities, both verbal and written.
    • Eager to learn, adaptable, and dependable.

About Maddox’s Engineering:

In an industry where lead time is often quoted in years, Maddox has earned a reputation for speed and wins because of it. Customers are assured that we can quickly deliver the right transformer when they receive a detailed drawing and quote shortly after giving us a call. At Maddox, engineering is integral to this process, always ready to provide guidance and support. We design, tackle challenging projects, source specialty components, and communicate with and produce drawings for customers, technicians, and fabricators. To minimize waste, we build our own tools to simplify and automate work whenever possible. These tools power our daily workflow and are essential in emergencies. When a hospital, factory, or city is crippled by a critical transformer failure, we respond swiftly.

Maddox maintains a give-the-best/expect-the-best attitude. Our team is equipped with high-end laptops (mainly Apple), docks, and multiple external monitors. We employ cloud-based solutions that enable our team to work from anywhere.

Basics:

  • Full-time. The schedule is generally 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
  • Drug-free workplace
  • Some travel between Maddox locations may be required.

Comprehensive Full-Time Benefits, including:

  • 3 Weeks Paid Time Off (PTO) (and an additional week for managers, and an additional week after 5 years).
  • Health & Wellness: Can be taken as traditional insurance, or as cash in lieu of benefits. Benefit amounts vary based on age, family status, and eligibility, but as an example, in most circumstances, an employee with a spouse and 3 kids, would be eligible for $19,200 / year or more.
  • Paid paternity/maternity leave
  • 401k with 100% match up to 8% of wages.
  • Paid holidays, marriage and family gifts to celebrate significant life events, and other reimbursements and voluntary benefits and coverages (such as Vision, Dental, Short Term Disability, Additional Life Insurance, Accident, etc), as eligible.

Pay: Starting range: $105k-$120k (wages and bonus) commensurate with applicable experience. Plus a comprehensive full-time benefits package that averages more than an additional $20k/year per employee (individual amounts vary on age, family size, and other factors).
