This role is meant to support the PLT-Laser Development as an Electrical Engineer. In this role, you will have the chance to broaden your horizon by working at the forefront of high-power laser fusion science. You will be a key person for the installation of the electrical system of the unique ultra-high intensity high-power laser system.
Your contributions will significantly impact the development of our cutting-edge technology. You will bring solid expertise to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams e. g. with the Laser, Engineering, and Experimental Group at Marvel Fusion, which is continuously developing and implementing new technologies to demonstrate key features of our unique laser-driven fusion concept. Furthermore, you will establish connections with external partners around the globe.
This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in developing and installing electrical systems as part of complex projects who would like to develop further within a multidisciplinary and multinational team.
- Design and develop the electrical system of a unique, scalable, industrial diode-pumped ultra-high intensity laser system including the development of conceptual designs and testing of prototypes
- Contribute your experience with electrical systems to the overall laser design
- Be responsible for the integration of the electrical system in a future facility and closely collaborate with the laser and engineering department of Marvel Fusion in the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases
- Interact with external partners and team members during this development
- Develop electrical systems quality plans and inspections & test plans as a framework for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of MF’s current and future electrical systems
- Be responsible for the construction and commissioning of these systems
- Provide input to a variety of projects in one or more of the following technical areas: analog and digital circuit design, process control systems, pulsed power and electromagnetics, diagnostics and sensor development, electro-optic systems, data acquisition systems, and facility electrical equipment and infrastructure
- Support R&D projects, including hands-on troubleshooting, prototyping, repair work, and on-site fixes to maintain operational efficiency and accelerate development timelines
- Travel to facilities worldwide for several weeks at a time
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 3-5 years of industry experience
- Solid foundation in electrical engineering principles covering design, assembly, calibration, and testing of analog and digital electrical systems
- Proven hands-on experience in designing and implementing complex electrical systems, managing the full lifecycle from concept through commissioning and validation
- Proficient in electrical design software such as EPLAN P8 (or similar E-CAD tools)
- Knowledge of PLC-based control systems and industrial automation (e.g., SCADA, PLC logic per EN 61131)
- Practical experience with industrial safety standards
- Experience with lab and test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, sensors, DAQ systems) and understanding of calibration and traceability
- Ability to define and document safety architectures, interface control documents (ICDs), and state machines for complex systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong analytical skills, adaptability, and a proactive, hands-on mindset
- Willingness to travel for several weeks at a time
- Experience in large-scale industrial or research facilities (e.g., laser labs, accelerator facilities, or production plants)
- Knowledge of pulsed power components for high-intensity lasers (e.g., application-specific capacitors)
- Familiarity with IEC 60825 (laser safety) and additional standards:
- IEC 62061, EN ISO 12100
- LVD 2014/35/EU, EMC 2014/30/EU, MD 2006/42/EC
- DIN VDE 0100 series
- Knowledge of quality management principles (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 10007)
- Experience with configuration of safety-rated controllers such as Beckhoff TwinSAFE
- Project management certification (PMI or similar)
