To support our extraordinary team who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add an Electrical Engineer located in Des Moines, IA.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing the AC and DC protection and control systems at the heart of substations and power stations for utility, generation, and industrial customers. You will take a customer specification and turn it into a complete, buildable, testable design, and then stay with it through fabrication and testing. You will see your work go from a blank sheet to an energized panel in a matter of weeks.
What a typical day looks like:
- Design AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panels, and control enclosures.
- Develop enclosure layouts, wire routing, terminal arrangements, and heat-load calculations.
- Convert customer specifications and one-line diagrams into complete design packages.
- Review engineering drawings for accuracy, quality, and standards compliance.
- Support fabrication, testing, troubleshooting, and field issue resolution.
- Provide technical expertise to customers and cross-functional teams.
- Maintain revision control and drive continuous improvement of design standards and processes.
The experience we’re looking to add to our team:
- Approximately seven (7) years of professional design experience, including any credit earned for advanced education; or a current Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Develops and reviews AC and DC schematics for the full range of our products.
- Develops and reviews of control enclosure designs of any complexity, including non-standard and space-constrained arrangements.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of protective relaying schemes and can evaluate scheme performance, not just draw it.
- Troubleshoots customer designs and subcontractor submittals and recommends corrections.
- Resolves complex or non-standard design problems with minimal supervision.
