GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The Engineer I, Electrical is responsible for developing and maintaining electromechanical system designs under the direction of a senior engineer or manager.  They provide direction to designers and drafters regarding the documentation of their designs.  Provides engineering support to internal and external customers and performs other tasks as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Functional & Technical Skills

  • Translate requirements into a system architecture and detailed design.
  • Design and integrate industrial automation and control systems including PLC controls, motor controls, and general machine controls.
  • Determine feasibility of modifying existing or designing new equipment considering costs, time limitations, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Validate designs through analysis and testing

Operational Excellence

Coordinate own design efforts to meet production schedules and provide project task estimates and updates to project team.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: BS in Electrical Engineering

Experience: 0+ years experience in developing and maintaining electromechanical system designs.

Licenses/Certifications: Obtain and maintain railroad safety training and credentials

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of business software including MS Office suite.
  • Collaborate with others to clarify requirements and develop solutions.
  • Lead design reviews consisting of multi-disciplined and cross functional team members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: MS in Electrical Engineering

Experience: 0+ years experience in the following:

    • 480VAC power generation and distribution
    • Engine/generator controls
    • Industrial automation and controls systems
    • Electrical traction systems (DC & AC)
    • Motor controls and variable speed drives

Licenses/Certifications: EIT

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in Autodesk and ERP software

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Compensation:

Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.
