As NTH continues to grow, we are looking to hire an entry level Staff Engineer to support our newly formed Electrical Engineering Power and Utilities Division. This position is intended to be based out of our Grand Rapids MI or Northville MI offices. This position is expected to be roughly 60% office / 40% field with significant variation depending on time of year and projects currently in hand. Travel is expected to be mainly within lower Michigan.

This role is designed for individuals interested in developing both engineering and field experience. Team members will work alongside experienced engineers and technicians while gaining exposure to substations, utility systems, renewable energy facilities, industrial power systems, and power generation projects. 

How You Will Make An Impact

· Communicate effectively with clients in-person, over the telephone, and via written communications to build trust and repeat business.

· Work safely and follow customer and NTH safety programs in industrial, utility, and construction field environments

· Complete electrical design assignments

· Learn to understand, utilize, and maintain a wide range of electrical test equipment.

· Travel to customer sites with a team and learn / support field work including: 

o Test and commission electrical utility equipment and systems

o Communicate with protective relays and download event reports

o Test SEL relays, other protective relays, and electric meters

o Connect to and manage export data from power quality meters

o Troubleshoot of electrical circuits and equipment

o Gather data for studies

o Use of electrical hand tools and perform basic electric controls circuit modifications.

o Communicate with and troubleshoot RTUs and PLCs

· Prepare documentation and test reports

· Model electrical and grounding systems for studies in ETAP and other electrical modeling software.

· Support electrical CAD design and electrical CAD standards work in a secondary role

· Work closely and coordinate design with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers. 

· Support development of design and testing standards

· Assist with building electrical prototypes, field tools, and NTH electric lab

· Be an early member of the NTH Electrical Division, with high potential for skill and career growth, mentorship, and impact on division culture.

Requirements

· Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. Study concentration in electric power, controls, or renewable energy preferred. 

· Interest in pursuing Professional Licensure is preferred for 4-year EE degree candidates.

· Ability to read and understand basic electrical drawings including schematics and wiring diagrams.

· Confidence in using a multi-meter and basic electrical hand tools.

· Intern or co-op experience in electrical substations, power plants, or industrial facilities is preferred.

· Lab experience with SEL protective relays and/or utility meters is preferred.

· Experience modeling electrical systems in ETAP, SKM, Easy Power or similar software is preferred.

· Experience with CAD design software is preferred.

· Ability to prepare accurate and professional documentation of test results and other engineering documents.

· Ability to work safely in utility, industrial, and construction environments.

· Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, demonstrated team-oriented approach to problem-solving, and strong interpersonal skills for contact with clients and fellow engineers/technicians. 

· Accuracy, dependability, and strong organizational skills

· Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines.

· Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

· May be required to perform job duties in the field and office, during non-standard work hours, as necessary.

· Must hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to regularly travel within the lower peninsula of Michigan.
