Electrical Designer - Primoris Pipeline & Engineering

Job Overview:

Position Summary:

Primoris Pipeline & Engineering is seeking an Electrical Designer who is responsible for creating detailed 2D and 3D drawings and models using software such as AutoCAD, CADWorx Structure, and Electrical Design Suite. This role requires the ability to work with minimal supervision from lead designers and/or engineers while efficiently managing assigned tasks. The Electrical Designer is expected to have a thorough understanding of processes, workflows, and NEC Codes for developing comprehensive construction packages, including drafting, modeling, performing quality checks, and ensuring compliance with project standards and specifications.

In addition to producing high-quality deliverables, the Designer will collaborate effectively with the project team to meet deadlines and address any challenges or discrepancies that may arise during the design process. Under the supervision of engineering, the Designer will interpret and refine concepts and sketches into construction drawings, while also delegating drafting or modeling tasks to Electrical Designers as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Advanced skillsets in Bluebeam, AutoCAD, CADWorx Structure, Electrical Design Suite
• Participate in site visits as required to verify as-built conditions or gather field data
• Take ownership of assigned projects or tasks, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables
• Assist lead designer in the review and markup stages of all applicable vendor drawings, ensuring critical information is presented, clear and adequate for constructability impact vendor drawings align with design models and drawings
• Proficiency with conduit fill, cable tray fill, and voltage drop/cable sizing/de-rating calculations
• Efficiently produce Electrical Conduit & Cable schedules using Microsoft Excel
• Efficiently produce accurate, detailed 2D deliverables for general drawings, typical/standard drawings, block diagrams, one-line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, panel schedules, wiring diagrams, plan drawings, and loop diagrams using applicable software
• Efficiently produce accurate, detailed location plans and area class drawings using 3D external reference models, using applicable software
• Efficiently produce complex 3D models of cable tray systems, conduit routing, power distribution centers against vendor drawings, and all associated electrical equipment using CADWorx Structure and Electrical Design Suite
• Assist Lead designer with generating and maintaining load list
• Perform quantity take-offs from models
• Ensure drawings and models adhere to project specifications, industry, client/internal standards, and encompass SOW
• Preparing deliverables for client submissions
• Perform thorough quality checks of own work and the work of Electrical Designers before submission to ensure they meet quality standards
• Maintain records of revisions and markups through duration of project.
• Delegate tasks to Electrical Designers, manage their own tasks, and support the Lead Designer in coordinating the overall workflow
• Serve as a resource for Electrical Designers, providing mentorship and support as needed
• Be familiar with internal, client, and industry standards such as NEC, NEMA, API 500, ANSI
• Maintain consistency in drafting output and ensure all files are organized according to data management protocols
• Work closely with leads, E&I engineers and other disciplines to ensure models and design packages meet project goals, are all cohesively integrated, and are in support of meeting deadlines across all disciplines
• Participate in internal project meetings as required by the discipline lead
• Manage on-demand tasks assigned by the lead and communicate any potential impacts on other tasks
• Address design challenges, discrepancies, or missing information in coordination with the project team
• Cross train into instrumentation and controls philosophies, standards, and specifications

Qualifications:

• Associate degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design Technology, or a related field
• Technical/vocational training in electrical design
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience
• 5–10+ years of electrical design experience
• Strong to advanced experience with: AutoCAD, CADWorx Structure, Bluebeam Revu, Electrical Design Suite software
• Experience developing construction drawing packages
• Experience creating both 2D drawings and 3D models
• Experience coordinating with engineers and multidisciplinary teams
• Experience reviewing vendor drawings
• Strong attention to detail
• Problem-solving abilities
