IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.
The Electrical Design Lead will act as the Owner’s Representative throughout the full lifecycle of our high-performance compute (HPC) projects, with a focus on medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is central to shaping the electrical design of our Australian data centres from early-stage concept through to detailed engineering, equipment commissioning, and handover.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
The Role:
As Electrical Design Lead, you'll act as the Owner's Representative across the full lifecycle of our high-performance compute (HPC) projects in Australia, with a focus on medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll shape the electrical design of our Australian data centres from early-stage concept through detailed engineering, equipment commissioning, and handover. This is a rare opportunity to own the electrical design story end-to-end — not just review someone else's.

What You'll do:
  • Act as the Owner's Representative across the full HPC project lifecycle for medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems
  • Develop functional descriptions and conceptual designs of electrical distribution systems — working autonomously or through external engineering firms to progress designs through basic and detailed engineering
  • Develop, review, and validate engineering deliverables including drawings, diagrams, calculations, material and cable lists, and electrical reports
  • Manage design queries, field instructions, deficiencies, and technical matters across concurrent projects in a timely, structured manner
  • Perform or support the specification, sizing, and selection of electrical equipment in accordance with Australian Standards and project requirements
  • Lead and oversee equipment validation, installation, and testing and commissioning activities in coordination with manufacturing and construction teams
  • Stay ahead of data centre power distribution trends, emerging technologies, and changes to Australian and international regulatory frameworks
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external engineering partners to ensure design intent, quality, and compliance are maintained throughout project delivery
Contribute to the continuous improvement of IREN's electrical design standards, templates, and engineering procedures
Benefits
We believe human progress is invaluable — but it should be done the right way: responsibly, sustainably, and with a positive impact on the communities we operate in. If you want your engineering career to sit at the intersection of AI infrastructure and genuine sustainability, there are few places like this in Australia.
Compensation & rewards
  • Competitive salary based on experience and impact
  • Short- and long-term incentive programs that reward both results and long-term company success

  • Casual, comfortable attire — bring your best self to work without the suit and tie
  • Onsite wellness facilities, with wellness built into your workday
