Position Summary:
The Component Engineer will primarily work on identifying any new electrical or mechanical components to meet system requirements. The engineer will create and or revise drawings, documents, and assemblies to integrate the chosen components into our current product lines through the release of engineering change orders. The product lines will encompass UPS and Power Switching and Distribution Products for use in Data Centers.
This requires complex problem solving, working with cross-functional teams, and managing a variety of tasks and activities while meeting project goals and schedules.
Responsibilities:
- Identify any new electrical or mechanical components to meet system requirements.
- Interface with suppliers to source parts, reduce costs and create a more robust supply chain.
- Create and/or revise part specifications, assemblies, drawings, schematics, harnesses, etc.
- Ensure the new components meets any compliance (UL, CE, NEC) requirements.
- Work with compliance to add new components to the UL files if necessary.
- Release to production, designs, drawings, and documentation through Engineering Change Orders in the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) database.
- Identify potential VAVE opportunities.
- Support Vertiv Services in implementing product changes to solve field issues.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Interdisciplinary Engineer or related degree from an accredited college or university.
- Strong Electrical and Mechanical Engineering background or knowledge is required.
- Ability to read, understand and drawing schematics and single line diagrams.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferred CREO and/or SolidEdge.
- Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical spec sheets.
- Knowledgeable on 3-phase transformers, power conversion and calculations.
- Knowledgeable on NEC requirements such as but not limited to, wire sizing, bend radius, and conduit sizing.
- Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment both independently and as a member of team.
- Must be detail oriented, have good planning and organization, and communication skills.
- Preferred experience with component selection such as breakers, fuses, relays, bolts, compression washers, etc.
- Preferred experience with PLM systems (BOM and Engineering Change Order management)
- Preferred experience or knowledge on UPS, Static Switches and/or Power Distribution products.
- Preferred experience with UL requirements.
