Job Description
Perform the electrical reliability engineering of electrical boards and subsequent boxes which is required to establish the basis for independent technical evaluations of electrical and component designs supporting operational spaceflight of significant BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS) missions, including worst-case circuit analysis (WCCA), worst-case timing analysis (WCTA), part stress and derating analysis, failure modes analyses, reliability predictions, limited life analyses (LLA), and electrical failure analyses. These analyses ensure that the design has sufficient performance margins, failure-recovery capabilities, resiliency, and high pedigree upon test-completion, such that mission success is achieved.
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.
What You'll Do:
  • Be mentored one-on-one by multiple component and board-level reliability engineering subject matter experts (SMEs) with a secondary tier of mentoring from multiple senior and principal system-level reliability engineering SMEs, gaining familiarity with reliability requirements and reliability work products that enable mission success.
  • Interface with a variety of engineering disciplines and programs across the BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS) sector as you perform your role and develop your understanding of the industry and products.
  • Learn to translate and derive written requirements from both internal and external sources into simple, straight-forward requirements.
  • Learn to use the internal Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, the repository for all program documents, analysis documents, assembly and part information.
  • Support the implementation of new PLM system(s).
  • Under the general supervision of senior engineers and mentors, learn to perform the following component-level Reliability Engineering duties and analyses:
    • Worst-Case Circuit Analysis (WCCA).
    • Worst-Case Timing Analysis (WCTA).
    • Parts Stress Analysis (PSA/Derating).
    • Reliability Prediction.
    • Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA).
    • Limited Life Analysis (LLA).
    • Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS).
  • Work with a myriad of military and industrial standards required to perform all Reliability Engineering analyses and duties.
  • Use manufacturer part parameter data to populate internal Reliability part variability database used in the execution of WCCA/WCTA, PSA, Reliability Prediction, and LLA.
  • Become proficient in manual and SPICE software schematic analysis to assist in the performance of WCCA/WCTA and PSA.
  • Train in the use of mathematical analysis software (e.g., Mathcad, MATLAB, etc.) to perform complex Monte Carlo simulations for use in WCCA/WCTA.
  • Communicate with parts manufacturers to request receipt of part parameter clarifications, thermal and life test data, and custom Reliability Prediction testing results.
  • Participate in the coordination and execution of multi-disciplinary working groups for performance of FMEA/FMECA, Failure Review Boards (FRBs) for FRACAS, and to streamline coordinated problem solving required by unfavorable results of other analyses.
  • Contribute to failure investigations in electrical circuits that result in FRBs, through Root-Case Analysis.
  • Write standardized engineering reports to deliver results of performed analyses.
  • Actively participate in design and document peer-reviews to assist in making risk-informed program decisions.
  • Develop a understanding of the drivers of component and system reliability requirements to help identify potential risks to the program early in the design process.
  • Gain experience in system-level reliability engineering through interaction with Systems Engineering tasks:
    • Participate in defining system-level Reliability Engineering requirements and review of system-level requirements that flow down to component-level Reliability analyses.
    • Review of those component-level analyses listed above from external suppliers.
    • Perform system-level Reliability Prediction using Windchill software suite.
    • Work with Mission Assurance Managers to keep them abreast of latest developments of in-progress and completed analyses.
    • Present analysis results to leadership, peers, and customers at program milestone meetings, Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR).
    • Learn to communicate effectively and professionally with external customers and suppliers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
