Canvass Leads support daily canvassing operations in Latino communities and help ensure canvassing teams are prepared, supported, and meeting established voter outreach and engagement goals.
This position provides day-to-day direction, training, and coaching to a team of approximately 4–5 canvassers, while also participating in voter registration, voter education, Vote by Mail, and Get Out the Vote (GOTV) activities. Spanish-speaking proficiency is required for this position.
Canvass Leads report to the State Civic Engagement Manager and/or Director.
Key Responsibilities- Provide daily direction and support to a canvassing team of approximately 4–5 employees.
- Ensure canvassers understand daily assignments, turf, scripts, goals, and reporting requirements.
- Provide training, coaching, and daily debriefs to canvassers.
- Motivate the team to meet established outreach and engagement goals.
- Engage community members and voters in Spanish and English as needed regarding voter registration, voter education, Vote by Mail, and GOTV activities.
- Prepare and distribute assigned turf for door-to-door canvassing and voter-registration activities.
- Review canvassing reports and accurately enter results into required databases.
- Submit required nightly reports, including voter-registration cards collected, doors knocked, contacts, and commitment cards.
- Prepare the office and materials before the canvassing team begins work.
- Organize literature, clipboards, and other canvassing materials.
- Drive the canvassing team as required.
- Follow established reporting procedures and submit required information to the appropriate supervisor.
- Comply with applicable voter-registration and voter-engagement requirements and organizational procedures.
- Spanish-speaking proficiency required.
- Previous canvassing, voter-registration, campaign, organizing, community outreach, or related experience preferred.
- Previous experience leading, training, coaching, or supporting a team preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate employees and provide clear direction and constructive feedback.
- Strong organizational and reporting skills.
- Ability to follow established scripts, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Comfortable using mobile canvassing applications, databases, and other required technology.
- Experience working with Latino communities strongly preferred.
- Ability to work flexible daytime, evening, and Saturday schedules.
- Ability to work in the field and travel throughout assigned canvassing areas.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive the canvassing team, if required for the assignment.
Qualifications
- Some campaign and/or field organizing experience.
- Experience using VAN and knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Legible handwriting.
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and a reliable vehicle, preferred.
