General Summary:
The Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) Senior Manager is responsible for managing multiple high level environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs for an area (campus) or site. The role involves working closely with other members of the EHSS team, Operations/Facilities team members and a broad range of business functions. This is a varied role which may require technical expertise in multiple disciplines including chemical safety, biological safety, radiation safety or other physical agents, industrial hygiene, environmental programs, fire safety, ergonomics, driver safety, facilities safety, occupational health, auditing and inspection.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Engages with employees and managers to integrate Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) into the business

Develops new programs and reviews existing programs, policies/procedures and training

Conducts and manages external/internal audits and inspections

Manages relationships and contracts with vendors and consultants who support EHSS

Works with Real Estate and Operations/Facilities teams to support projects

Leads accident, incident and near miss investigations and ensures improvement strategies are recommended and actioned.

Represents EHSS at internal/external meetings; including project meetings, cross-functional meetings and meetings with external regulatory bodies

Contributes to the preparation and monitoring of EHSS budgets

Prepares metrics including injury metrics and sustainability metrics

Contributes to regional and Global EHSS programs and collaborations across sites
Knowledge and Skills:
-
In-depth knowledge of federal, state and local environmental, health and safety regulations

Experience in Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology industry is desirable

Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate persuasively and with clarity, flexibility and adaptability and to explain difficult information/build consensus with a wide range of stakeholders

Strong management skills with a collaborative approach to problem solving, driving performance and success in a global environment

Ability to solve complex problems and meet project goals in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities

Demonstrates leadership with health, safety and environmental issues

Environmental or Sustainability qualification is desirable (e.g. IEMA certificate, NEBOSH Environmental Diploma)

Membership of a professional institute at Graduate or Chartered level e.g. IOSH GradIOSH or CMIOSH preferred)

Recognized safety practioner status (CIH, CSP)
Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, science or safety related discipline (Higher level Health and Safety Qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma, NRCQ)

Master's degree in an applicable field (e.g. industrial hygiene)

Typically requires 6 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
