We are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a strong safety culture. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to manage EHS risks across laboratory, manufacturing, and vivarium environments.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in hazardous materials management, chemical safety, biological waste handling, and regulatory compliance, including San Diego County HAZMAT regulations and the CERS reporting portal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support implementation and maintenance of EHS programs including Hazard Communication, Waste Management, PPE, Lockout/Tagout, and Emergency Response.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and local HAZMAT regulations.

  • Manage chemical, hazardous, and biological waste programs, including labeling, storage, and disposal.

  • Maintain EHS documentation, permits, and regulatory reporting including CERS submissions.

  • Conduct EHS inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions when needed.

  • Support emergency response planning, spill response, and safety training initiatives.

  • Track and report EHS metrics and support continuous improvement of safety programs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 5+ years of EHS experience, preferably in biotech, life sciences, or manufacturing environments.

  • Strong knowledge of hazardous materials, chemical safety, and biological waste management.

  • Experience with San Diego County HAZMAT regulations and CERS reporting preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 EHS management systems

  • HAZWOPER certification

  • First Aid / CPR / AED certification

  • Experience with EHS compliance systems or databases.
