About Us

We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?

Who You Are

Sila is seeking an EH&S Specialist to join our Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) team in supporting a fast-growing, 24/7 manufacturing operations site. Reporting directly to the EHS&S Site Manager, this individual contributor will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and continuously improving fit-for-purpose EHS&S compliance programs and risk reduction strategies.

You are a pragmatic, hands-on safety professional who thrives in a dynamic manufacturing environment. You excel at collaborating directly with cross-functional shop-floor teams ("Silazens") to establish clear safeguards, work instructions, and standards that prevent high-consequence safety and environmental events. You advocate for simplifying safety processes—making it effortless for colleagues to work safely and difficult to do work unsafely. You bring a strong continuous improvement mindset, high adaptability, and a deep commitment to protecting our workforce, environment, and surrounding community.

Responsibilities
  • EHS&S Program Development & Execution: Assist in developing, updating, and supporting sitewide EHS&S policies, standards, work instructions, and training materials across critical safety domains, including Lockout/Tagout (isolation of hazardous energy), Confined Space Entry, Work at Heights, Electrical Safety, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Waste Management, and Hot Work.
  • Hazard & Exposure Assessments: Perform comprehensive chemical and equipment hazard assessments. Recommend built-in engineering, process, and equipment safety features to minimize employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards while maintaining strict regulatory compliance.
  • Industrial Hygiene & Exposure Studies: Conduct employee exposure monitoring studies (noise, airborne contaminants, chemical exposures) within training and qualification limits as required.
  • Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis: Lead and support internal inspections, audits, near-miss reporting, and incident investigations. Define robust corrective actions (CAPA) and partner with site personnel to track actions through to completion.
  • Emergency Response & On-Call Support: Serve on the Sila Emergency Response Team (ERT) as Safety Officer, participating in designated on-call rotation schedules to provide off-hours site coverage and emergency support.
  • Data Analytics & Continuous Improvement: Track and analyze event and near-miss trends to educate site personnel, inform safety committees, and proactively build risk-mitigation measures into site operating systems.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Research: Accurately research and analyze relevant federal, state, and local regulations, codes, and industry standards to guide Sila’s ongoing compliance efforts.
  • Documentation & Safety Leadership: Maintain EHS&S records, data, and compliance documentation in a consistent, audit-ready manner. Actively represent the EHS&S team across site safety committees and councils.
Core Expectations & Deliverables
  • Program Simplification: Streamline existing safety procedures into easy-to-follow work instructions that integrate seamlessly into standard operating procedures for 24/7 plant shifts.
  • Actionable Risk Reduction: Drive timely resolution of all open CAPA items, near-miss findings, and audit action items in collaboration with plant operations.
  • Emergency Readiness: Maintain full qualification and operational readiness on the site Emergency Response Team (ERT), fulfilling designated on-call responsibilities.
  • Safety Culture Stewardship: Foster a proactive, low-ego safety culture across all shifts by modeling Sila’s core values: Winning Together, Owning It, Mastering Your Craft, and Finding & Facing Facts.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Health, Chemistry, or a related science-based discipline preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) program support experience within a manufacturing, chemical processing, advanced materials, or fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Solid foundation in OSHA, EPA, and state-level EHS regulations and standards (e.g., LOTO, Hazard Communication, Industrial Hygiene, Confined Space).
  • Technical & Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a high-paced, evolving operational environment.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to build strong working relationships with shop-floor technicians, engineers, and executive leaders.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and EHS management software/databases.
  • Certifications (Preferred): ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or relevant safety/HAZWOPER/ERT certifications are a plus.

Employees are provided comprehensive safety training and are expected to follow established procedures, wear required personal protective equipment, and participate in maintaining a safe workplace.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds individually, and up to 50 pounds with assistance.
