Employment Type: Full-time

About Starpath
Starpath develops and manufactures the technologies that will enable humans to live on the Moon and Mars. Today, we are building robotic systems that locally produce the essential commodities a lunar civilization will require at extreme scale: water, power, and oxygen. Our ultimate goal is to build and operate a self-sustaining city on Mars.

The Role
The Starlight Megafactory is where we manufacture space solar arrays at high rate. Our processes span chemical manufacturing, cleanroom operations, precision assembly, and high-voltage electrical testing — and we need to run all of it safely, legally, and responsibly.

As EHS Manager, you will build and own Starpath's environmental, health, and safety program from the ground up. You'll set safety standards, own regulatory compliance across Cal/OSHA and environmental agencies, train the factory workforce, and partner with engineering and operations to design safety into our processes from day one. This is a build-from-scratch role — you'll define how Starpath approaches EHS as the company scales.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own Starpath's EHS program — safety policies, environmental compliance, and regulatory reporting for the Starlight Megafactory

  • Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA, federal OSHA, EPA, California Air Resources Board, DTSC, and Los Angeles fire and building code requirements

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs — new hire orientation, hazard-specific training (chemical handling, LOTO, confined space, fall protection, forklift, PPE)

  • Own hazardous materials management — chemical inventory, SDS management, waste characterization, storage, and disposal

  • Partner with process engineering and chemistry teams to conduct hazard assessments and design safety controls into new manufacturing processes

  • Investigate incidents and near-misses, drive corrective actions, and lead the safety improvement program

  • Own environmental permits — air emissions, wastewater discharge, hazardous waste — and interface with state and local regulators

  • Maintain OSHA recordkeeping (300/300A logs), workers' comp coordination, and injury reporting

  • Establish ergonomics program, PPE program, and industrial hygiene monitoring

  • Build and lead the EHS function as the factory scales — hiring safety specialists, technicians, or coordinators as headcount grows

  • Push back on unnecessary complexity — simplify programs, reduce paperwork burden, and cut overhead wherever it doesn't add value

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline

  • 7+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated ownership of safety and environmental programs

  • Deep working knowledge of Cal/OSHA standards, federal OSHA, and California environmental regulations

  • Track record of building or leading EHS programs in industrial or manufacturing settings

  • Experience managing hazardous materials, chemical safety, and environmental compliance

  • Strong ability to partner with engineering and operations teams to design safety into processes rather than bolt it on

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental science

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or comparable certifications

  • Prior EHS leadership experience at an aerospace, semiconductor, chemical manufacturing, or high-tech hardware company

  • Direct experience with cleanroom operations, glovebox handling, and semiconductor or PV chemistry safety

  • Familiarity with lead-containing materials, solvents, precursors, and polymer/adhesive chemistries used in advanced manufacturing

  • Experience standing up EHS programs from scratch, including permits, training programs, and regulatory relationships

  • People-management experience — building and leading a small EHS team

  • Familiarity with high-voltage electrical safety (NFPA 70E) and arc flash hazard analysis

  • Familiarity with laser safety, RF safety, or other specialty hazards

  • Prior experience with a Cal/OSHA or EPA inspection or audit process

Compensation & Benefits

  • Location: Los Angeles (Hawthorne), CA

  • Competitive salary plus equity package; compensation scales with candidate experience

  • PTO & health/dental/vision coverage included

EAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
