Here’s the Gist:
Wolfspeed is seeking an environmental, health, safety, and sustainability (EHSS) engineer to manage EHSS programs at the North Carolina facilities. The EHSS Engineer is directly responsible for activities related to ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. This position works closely with internal business partners to find effective, efficient solutions to environmental health and safety program implementation.
Reporting to the Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager, this position develops, implements, and monitors company environmental health and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. The primary focus of the EHSS Engineer will be to implement environmental health and safety programs in a semiconductor manufacturing environment with significant chemical usage.
The Day-to-Day:
Drive continuous improvement in Wolfspeed "Protect the Pack" safety culture
Develop and implement EHSS programs, procedures, associated training, guidance documents, and job aids
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and environmental permits
Support department / business unit implementation of environmental health and safety programs (serve as EHSS Point-of-Contact)
Collaborate with site groups to institute controls and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions and equipment
Perform Job Hazards Analysis (JHA) and provide recommendations on controls and mitigation
Conduct incident investigations with business units, determine root causes using structured problem solving, and drive corrective actions
Coordinate ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 activities related to internal and external assessments and audits
This Job is Right for You if You Have (Minimum Requirements):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Chemistry, Science, or other 4-year related degrees.
- 3-5 years of experience implementing environmental health and safety programs in an industrial setting
- In depth knowledge of chemical safety, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene
- Ability to effectively interpret federal and state regulations (i.e. OSHA and EPA)
- Ability to manage multiple programs/projects simultaneously and ability to effectively implement the programs/projects in a complex environment.
- Experience in conducting industrial hygiene assessments, environmental sampling and analysis, and chemical review/approvals
- Experience with SharePoint, MS Teams, MS Office
- Must be comfortable wearing personal protective equipment or PPE (i.e. lightweight cleanroom suit, eye protection, gloves, etc.)
- Occasional ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Occasional on-call responsibility to respond to on site emergencies
Preferred skills and certifications:
- Semiconductor / chemical industry experience
- Experience working in Process Safety Management (PSM) covered facility
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accreditation
- Applicable knowledge of SEMI, IBC, FM Global, and NFPA standards and regulations
