The EHS Coordinator develops, implements, and maintains safety programs in a food manufacturing facility, ensuring regulatory compliance and a strong safety culture across all operations. This role leads risk assessments, incident investigations, employee training, and Process Safety Management (PSM) for the onsite ammonia refrigeration system.
QualificationsKey Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs and policies in compliance with OSHA, FDA, FSMA, and other applicable regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and hazard/risk assessments to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate and deliver effective safety training programs for employees, contractors, and new hires.
- Track, analyze, and report EHS performance metrics, including leading and lagging indicators.
- Serve as back-up for the EHS Manager.
- Serve as a key point of contact during regulatory inspections and audits.
- Maintain required EHS documentation, records, and permits.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop practical solutions.
- Training in ammonia refrigeration safety, HAZOP/PHA, and root cause analysis methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, PSM requirements, and food safety regulations.
- Focused on a proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a genuine commitment to employee safety.
- Experience in working effectively in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
- Naturally skilled at verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent years of progressive EHS experience).
- Certification in Process Safety Management (PSM) or working toward CSP (Certified Safety Professional) preferred.
