The EHS&S Coordinator supports the implementation and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards. This position partners supervisors, managers, and employees to promote a positive safety culture, reduce risk, prevent injuries, and support environmental stewardship initiatives and reports directly to the EHS&S Manager.

The EHS&S Coordinator serves as a visible presence on the production floor and assists with training, inspections, incident investigations, audits, regulatory compliance, and sustainability programs.

Essential Responsibilities

Safety Programs

  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of EHS&S policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and hazard assessments.
  • Track corrective actions and verify timely completion.
  • Participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and risk assessment activities.
  • Support lockout/tagout, machine guarding, powered industrial truck, crane, fall protection, and contractor safety programs.
  • Monitor workplace conditions and recommend improvements to reduce risk.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of employee safety training.

Incident Management

  • Participate in injury, property damage, environmental, and near-miss investigations.
  • Identify root causes and recommend effective corrective actions.
  • Maintain incident records and assist with reporting requirements.
  • Track trends and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

Environmental Compliance

  • Assist with compliance activities related to:
    • Stormwater (SWPPP)
    • Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure (SPCC)
    • Hazardous waste management
    • Air emissions
    • Chemical management
    • Recycling and waste reduction programs
  • Conduct environmental inspections and maintain required documentation.
  • Support environmental permit compliance activities.

Sustainability Initiatives

  • Assist with company sustainability objectives and projects.
  • Collect and track sustainability metrics such as:
    • Energy usage
    • Water consumption
    • Waste generation
    • Recycling performance
    • Greenhouse gas reduction initiatives
  • Support employee engagement and sustainability awareness programs.

Training & Employee Engagement

  • Facilitate new employee EHS orientation training.
  • Coordinate and track required compliance training.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings.
  • Promote employee involvement through observations, audits, and safety initiatives.
  • Assist with recognition and engagement programs that support a positive safety culture.

Audits & Compliance

  • Assist with internal and external EHS audits.
  • Maintain compliance records and documentation.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate requirements as needed.
  • Support OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001, and future ISO 45001 compliance initiatives.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and KPI dashboards for management review.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Maintain EHS&S databases and recordkeeping systems.
  • Track EHS metrics including:
    • TRIR
    • DART
    • Near misses
    • Safety observations
    • Training completion
    • Environmental performance indicators
  • Generate monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Analyze trends and recommend improvement opportunities.
 
 

WORKING CONDITIONS:   The primary work site is an office.  The office is accessible from the parking lot. Travel to other locations will be required.  There is also work in production environments. There are seasonal variations in temperatures from 60 to 95+ degrees; some exposure to diesel fumes as trucks move through the plant; noise level varies depending on number of machines in operation. Potential hazards include cuts and crush injuries.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field preferred but not required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • 1-3 years of EHS-related experience preferred.
  • Manufacturing, steel processing, warehousing, or industrial experience preferred.
  • Experience with OSHA and environmental compliance programs preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Basic understanding of EPA environmental requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and recognize workplace hazards.
  • Effective organizational and project management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.

  

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both office and industrial environments.
  • Frequent walking throughout manufacturing and warehouse areas.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to occasionally climb ladders, access elevated work areas, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Skills Required
