THE VALUE YOU'LL BRING:

Join the team as an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Coordinator where you will enhance Environmental, Health, and Safety at our Smithfield Foods location! In this key role, you will help implement policies that prioritize Worker Safety and EHS compliance. You will support the EHS Team by leveraging your knowledge of workers’ compensation laws and regulatory frameworks to exceed compliance standards and support our best-in-industry EHS operation. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified. May perform other duties as assigned.

  • EHS Program Management: You will support the management of location EHS programs including program updates, inspections of equipment and processes, metrics and other duties as requested. You will assist in completing applications for environmental permits to prevent a lapse in coverage.

  • Process Safety and Security: You will support compliance with Process Safety Management/Risk Management plan requirements for the ammonia refrigeration system and help ensure the Site Security Plan is followed.

  • Data Tracking and Reporting: You will be responsible for gathering and tracking key EHS key performance indicators such as OSHA/environmental violations, incident rates, employee turnover, workers’ compensation claims, and audit results. You will assist in reviewing and monitoring all incident investigation reports and employee exposure surveys to completion ensuring tracking and closure of identified action items.

  • ISO Certification Support: You will support location ISO certification management teams and documentation control requirements. You will work with the location team to ensure conformance to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 programs as well as support maintenance of Smithfield Injury Prevention System (SIPS) and Environmental Management System (EMS) programs.

  • Training and Compliance: You will help provide adequate training for production employees and management staff as required by OSHA and environmental permits. You will ensure adherence to company policies and reporting non-compliance for correction or re-training. You will support the determination of location compliance with safety processes, and environmental permits and plans including wastewater, air, storm water permits, and SPCC plan.

  • Team Collaboration: As a member of the EHS team, you will ensure effective implementation and maintenance of all EHS requirements. You will provide support to ensure compliance with regulations and company standards.

WHAT WE'RE SEEKING:

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • Experienced at handling multiple assignments simultaneously, setting goals, and completing commitments on schedule.

  • Accustomed to working long hours, weekends, and remaining in an on-call status when required.

  • Occasional travel involved to collaborate with others

OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

  • Good decision maker and ability to perform in stressful situations.

  • Demonstrated computer skills, particularly in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and company software packages.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures in English

  • Basic math skills to manage Key Performance Indicators.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Bilingual in Spanish or another language, preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

  • Noise level in the work environment requires hearing protection.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Indoor and outdoor work environments.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently required to stand; walk; use stairs, some ladder climbing, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear.

  • Work alternate shifts and some weekends.

  • Ability to deliver information to diverse audiences.

  • Fundamental mathematical skills for managing Key Performance Indicators.

  • Embody respect, approachability, and a team-oriented demeanor for fostering robust working relationships and cultivating a positive work environment.

IndSPR-Ops

The expected pay range for this position is $21.63 - $31.25 per hour.

Smithfield Foods provides pay ranges that reflect its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the company reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of hire. Individual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, location of the position, the candidate’s qualifications and experience, internal equity, external market pay for comparable positions and budget considerations.
