The Opportunity

Cornell’s Office of Institutional Equity and Title IX is dedicated to providing comprehensive, impactful, and engaging educational programs and solutions to the Cornell community (students, faculty, and staff) in the areas of protected-status discrimination, harassment and bias, sex and gender-based harassment and misconduct, employee reasonable accommodations, equal employment opportunity, and other equity focused programming. As the Education and Training Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering these educational programs and solutions.

Reporting to the AVP of Institutional Equity and Title IX, and collaborating closely with the Title IX Coordinator, Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Equal Opportunity Program Coordinator, and the Affirmative Action Program Consultant, you will work to ensure the University’s training compliance obligations federally and at the state level. You will apply a comprehensive understanding of civil rights compliance requirements and University policies and procedures to training and education opportunities that you will develop and provide to the campus community. 

Working with the OIETIX Equity Data Analysis Specialist, you will assist in the development and implementation of data collection and analyses projects (e.g., climate surveys, listening sessions, open forums), and design research-based strategic action plans relative to training initiatives.

Hybrid/Hub Remote

This position’s home location is Cornell’s campus in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant will typically be expected to work on-site at least 3 days a week and will have the option to work remotely 2 days per week. The hours of this position are typically Monday through Friday during business hours, however, there may be the occasional need for pre-planned evening or weekend hours to ensure presentations can be delivered to all University constituencies.  The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time. 

The New York Convenience of Employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 to 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Demonstrated success in presenting educational programming to diverse populations.
  • Strong planning, research/analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills; high comfort level with public speaking.
  • Extensive knowledge of pertinent civil rights legal/regulatory landscape (e. Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and ADA).
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with diverse faculty, staff, and student populations.
  • Skills in using Microsoft Office Suite, to include PowerPoint, as well as other presentation software.
  • Ability to build strong relationships establishing credibility and trust.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to coordinate various events including trainings and presentations with relevant campus partners.
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing.
