ISS MI Media, a provider of publications, digital assets, conferences, and research that are highly regarded for their editorial integrity, objectivity, and leadership within the retirement plan industry, is seeking an energetic journalist with an ability to break news and an insatiable fascination with finance to join our team in New York.

Our brand, PLANADVISER, is a financial publication/brand whose target readers are the advisers and consultants who advise employer-sponsored retirement plans—defined benefit, defined contribution, and nonqualified plans. The PLANADVISER brand includes online daily news and newsletters, proprietary surveys, conferences, and multiple awards programs.

We’re seeking a hands-on reporter and editor for the brand. Someone who will split their time writing about the industry, tracking trends and managing a junior reporter as well. This person will serve as a judge for our adviser awards programs and attend and moderate at our conferences.

The right person will work with industry sources to deliver daily news stories, scoops and larger trend pieces on top retirement plan advisers, the convergence of retirement and wealth, recordkeepers, investment firms, etc. —all backed with excellent writing skills.

What You'll Do:

  • Pitch, source, and write spot news and long form news articles for the PLANADVISER website daily, as well as edit the work of colleagues for the same medium

  • Manage multiple assignments while meeting daily, weekly and monthly deadlines

  • Source and produce interviews with retirement plan/adviser/investment manager executives and industry leaders with vision

  • Produce daily and bi-monthly newsletters and post stories to the web

  • Ability to network and greet a room

  • Produce podcasts with top industry executives

  • Help to manage social media platforms

What We Need from You:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Reporter or financial industry professional who takes initiative in finding, pitching, and delivering well-reported and useful stories about issues affecting retirement plans in the form of spot news and long-form articles

  • Ability to multitask and to deliver 1-2 news stories per day, plus regular feature and in-depth stories for both print and online

  • Good track record of reporting on the financial industry

  • Ability to read and understand and break news from court filings

  • Good communication skills
